DIEMONDS is a Toronto based five-piece ensemble fronted by the smoking hot Priya Panda playing US Hard Rock with many reminiscences of the late eighties style.

Taking a look at the very cool cover art of their debut “The Bad Pack” one could think that Diemonds is a very heavy band, but the music is straight-out edgy Rock ‘N’ Roll.

At one time or another, most girls dream of singing in a band. Most girls, however, can’t sing power rock. Priya Panda defies all expectations by being a wicked female frontgirl that can actually rock a stage. With her voice, she really gives the band a distinctive sound and you can hear her attitude throughout all the compositions.

In addition, what makes the songs on “The Bad Pack” so good are the melodic guitar solos everywhere over the great riffs at any point in time, backed by strong rhythm section.

The opening track and first single “Take On The Night” is a stellar introduction to what’s to come. With Priya’s sexy, pouty voice and wailing guitars, the track oozes power and sexiness, the overall theme of Diemonds and, let’s say, Rock ‘N’ Roll.

Next, “Lil’ Miss” rocks again fiercely with great riffs and melodious yet melting solos, while “Loud N’ Nasty” is exactly what you would expect from the title.

Other highlights are the more melodic “Left For Dead” and the Skid Row-esque “Trick Or Treat”, a band to name as influence. In fact, Diemonds is touring supporting Sebastian Bach in various gigs right now.

On the entire “The Bad Pack” Diemonds shows the influence of late-1980s US hard / metal, adding their touch on a sound that has progressed and been refined over the years.

Picture the band with big hair, tight leather pants and denim jackets, and you’ve got Diemonds. It’s easy to rock along with each track, and even with a few lovely burps punctuating the album, the high-energy doesn’t stop.

There are no ballads (only closing “Mystery” adds some acoustics) as the band launches from one fast rocker to another including a great deal of sing along opportunities on many of the songs, which makes them all excellent tracks to play live. Not surprisingly, all of them clock in at less than four minutes.

“The Bad Pack” is a totally surprisingly good indie, and if you like hard hitting rock ‘n roll you have to listen to it.
