WILD FRONTIER – Alive 25 (2015)
German melodic hard rockers WILD FRONTIER have been round the block for some time, twenty five years indeed, and are celebrating the event with the release of “Alive 25“, their new double CD recorded last year in Wabern, Germany during their 25th Anniversary show.
Many things changed in the musical world in the last 25 years, but what has not changed at all is the sound of Wild Frontier: catchy melodic hard rock with in the typical Teutonic style in the vein of Bonfire, Scorpions, Human Zoo and even some Def Leppard – mainly in the layered harmonies.
They are a pure blood Melodic Hard Rock band in the classic Euro way.
All over the 16 tracks featured here the band covers their entire discography, being some songs written in the first heyday era of the genre.
Someone could argue the songwriting is simplistic at times, but this is exactly the focus of this band; fun and easy listeneable rockers with addictive melodies and alluring refrains, not on impressing anyone with complexity.
There are thousands of prog-rock and metal bands out there more than willing to wow you with technical wizardry; Wild Frontier just want you to tap your foot, bang your head, and sing along.
On stage, Wild Frontier comes a little harder than in the studio, with some edgy guitars and more pounding drums. The solos are pretty hot, and while Jens Walkenhorst’s vocals struggle at some parts, I prefer the record was released this way without overdub / studio polish.
