Founded in Stockholm around 2004, MARYSCREEK was slowly cementing a strong reputation playing all over Europe and releasing a full album and an EP. Now, with some line-up changes and a fresh deal with Escape Music, MARYSCREEK are releasing their second full length “Infinity“.

Press material is trying to pass them off as a modern metal act, but while “Infinity” sounds pretty modern in terms of production, the skeleton of the songs in the new album basically find 80s / 90s hard rock structures with some AOR / melodic hard rock sensibility and accessibility.
Yes, MarysCreek has fat, sharp and heavy riffage which can be crushing, but not beat down crushing, thanks to melody and some quirky keyboards. Additionally the vocals are clean & harmonic and most the music is driven by melody and groove.
In short; this is traditional Hard / Melodic wrapped in a heavier, updated sonic attack.

To supply the band’s material with the necessary punchy sound, Stefan Glaumann (Within Temptation, Europe) was engaged for mixing the album, then mastered by Svante Forsbäck (Tarja Turunen).
So, production and musicianship are great… what about the songs?
All are composed by singer & keyboardist Mats Nilsson, who seems to be a quite versatile songwriter. Besides, every song has a different and unique sound making the listening experience much more accessible.

MARYSCREEK - Infinity (2016) inside

‘Hypnotized’, ‘Buried Deep Within’, and ‘So Afraid to Live’ are really hooky and riff-driven, adorned with synths and some electronic sounds. ‘The First Day’ has the most melodic chorus of the entire record, while in the other hand ‘My Confession’ is dark and brooding.
The edgy yet melodic ‘My Own Enemy’ feels like anything that The Poodles could have recorded recently if they go more modern in arrangements.
‘On The Other Side’ is the more close to a ballad we have in the tracklist, and provides a nice break in the middle of the album.

MarysCreek courageously blends an updated, modern metallic sound with the classic melodies of Scandinavian melodic rock tradition to form a fresh and unique sound.
The ambition in “Infinity” is to take the best of two worlds: a heavy rock foundation consisting of fat, distorted guitars and huge drums with a delicious topping of pop-flavored song melodies arranged with multi-layered vocals.
It’s not the typical Escape Music release – specialized in classic AOR / Melodic Hard artists, but it’s a welcomed addition to their roster stretching their boundaries to a more diverse palette.
