DORO – Love’s Gone To Hell (2016)
German metal queen DORO Pesch is releasing a new EP, “Love’s Gone To Hell“, today April 1 through Nuclear Blast. The EP contains 3 variations of the new single “Love’s Gone To Hell”, a wonderful song filled with a powerful chorus, a catchy riff and a voice that seems can never be changed by time passing, plus some extras for the fans.
My favorite of the three “Love’s Gone To Hell” would be the single version over the radio version, the only difference is it is a little longer and I get to hear this vibrating crystal voice for some time longer. The song is consistent all the way through and never gets boring at any point. It’s a pure pleasure to listen to and makes you want to hear so much more.
The other part of the EP consist of a song released back in 2012, and seeing the latest events it makes a lot of sense for its release: “It Still Hurts” featuring the late Lemmy Kilmister. The song is pretty emotional, the twirling of two iconic metal voices in a slow powerful ballad… What else could you need?
Knowing the latest events concerning Lemmy, this song has even more meaning and the power behind the lyrics is even stronger. Doro could not have made a better choice of a song to add to this EP.
The next 2 songs are live releases, one being the old classic “Save My Soul” performed with fire, and a newer release, “Rock Till Death”. I am personally not a very big fan of listening to live songs unless the song has major differences within it.
“Rock Till Death” gave me something I would never have expected – a duet with Blind Guardian’s vocalist Hansi Kürsch. Two metal voices fused in one song to make it greater than ever, I loved every second of it to the point I may even prefer this version to the studio, and that is saying something.
The next gives you the live version of a well known classic “Save My Soul”. The song remains great, Doro’s voice perfect as ever and the crowd is even quite entertaining.
The album ends in the third version of “Love’s Gone To Hell”, this time an original demo version. In this track we can feel Doro’s voice has not been tweaked and her voice seems far more natural. Although the song is not mixed as perfectly as the released version (as expected of a demo) there is something strangely beautiful in hearing an unmodified version of the song where Doro’s voice is heard for what it truly is.
No matter the modification, her voice still keeps her vibrating beauty. Hearing such a voice in a demo reminds us all why it is Doro is such a great artist.
“Love’s Gone To Hell” is a very enjoyable EP. Doro shows that even after 34 years since her debut with Warlock, she can still bring power to a song using nothing but her wonderful voice.
Doro – who will be honored with the Metal Goddess Award at the 2016 Vegas Rocks! Hair Metal Awards in Las Vegas on May 15 – will release a new DVD, ‘30 Years DORO – Strong & Proud’, in June, again via Nuclear Blast.
Meanwhile, enjoy this new entertaining EP.
