DORO – Strong And Proud (2016)
German metal queen DORO celebrated the 30th Anniversary of performing live during 2013 / 2014 by touring the world extensively for a year, and now a celebratory album will be released tomorrow June 24: “Strong And Proud – 30 Years Of Rock And Metal“.
Dorothee Pesch has made quite an impact since bursting onto the scene in the early ’80s as a member of Warlock. Blessed with a wide-eyed enthusiasm that never waned, the singer from Düsseldorf helped to set many of the boundaries that we know today, never using her gender to sell records, each victory or landmark – in 1986 she became the first woman to front a metal band at Castle Donington – however large or small, building towards a career that now spans more than three decades.
Across 14 songs, in “Strong & Proud” Doro celebrates her career from Warlock to the present day, also offering up cover versions of artists that have inspired her – including Iron Maiden, Dio and Accept.
Apart from his impressive band, everyone came to party with Doro: Phil Campbell (Motorhead), Biff Byford (Saxon), ex Accept Udo Dirkschneider, Uli Jon Roth, Chris Caffery (Savatage), Blaze Bayley (ex- Iron Maiden), Joakim Brodén (Sabaton), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Lordi as well as many more amazing guests — the list of stars who celebrated the metal queen on stage comes across like a Who’s Who of the rock & metal scene.
“Strong And Proud – 30 Years Of Rock And Metal” is a really good showcase for Doro’s career and her talents onstage. It’s a properly recorded album, punchy, plenty of strong songs.
Two thumbs up.
