DANNY VERAS – Under The Influence (2018)

Tomorrow 9th of February singer / guitarist DANNY VERAS releases his new album “Under The Influence”, where he worked with, among others, Paul Sabu (who produced Veras’ previous album as well) and more renowned artists.
As its title makes clear, “Under The Influence” is an album of cover songs from artists that nourished Veras’ career, arranged & performed with a polished Melodic Rock sheen.

Sabu play most the guitars, synths, does backing vocals and produces, Dennis Churchill Dries (ex White Sister) plays bass, and we find several guest guitar solos.
Veras does a convincing version of Scorpions’ “Send Me An Angel”, also delivered as bonus at the end of the record in its acoustic version featuring German nylon strings virtuoso “André Krengel”. The guitarist also play on “Can’t Find My Way Home” (House Of Lords classic) filled with sweet vocals.

There’s a cool take on Bon Jovi’s hit “Wanted Dead or Alive” (featuring Tommy Lafferty from Crown Of Thorns / Voodoo X), on “Blinded” Veras sounds a lot like Steve Perry and the solo of Howie Simon (Jeff Scott Soto band) rocks, while the surprisingly cover of The Turtles’ “Happy Together” is trippy and melodious.
I find some duds as well, like “Ball of Confusion” (The Temptations but made famous by Love And Rockets), or The Beatles’ “Day Tripper”, which, in Veras’ favor, at least he has done a really different, modern rock version of it.

Danny Veras shows his versatility on “Under The Influence”, a varied set of covers pretty convincing for the most part. This guy is able to sing many styles, and his melodic vocal timbre should be noted by major Melodic Hard Rock acts looking for a new singer.
