Building on the success of their last two albums Coup De Grace (2010) and Ghost Of Graceland (2016), which were both released after the band’s reunion in 2006, TREAT‘s return has been more than welcome by fans and critics alike. With the two albums having received praise as true masterpieces, Treat is releasing their new CD, “Tunguska”, via Frontiers Music next September 14. This Japanese Edition will be released tomorrow, with a bonus track.

But what is “Tunguska”? The album title is a reference to a mysterious large explosion that took place in Siberia in 1908, but metaphorically and artistically, “Tunguska” represents the last piece of the puzzle to be put in place since the band’s reunion.
It highlights the unique musicianship Treat have developed together over the years in the creative songwriting process, but also illustrates how the band want their music to sound and feel in the 21st century.

Packed with riveting rockers and seductive, soul searching melodic rock songs, “Tunguska” is a real blast.
Opener ‘Progenitors’ kicks with punchy riffs, with ‘Always Have, Always Will’ we find Treat at their best with a terrific midtempo melody and a soaring chorus, then ‘Best Of Enemies’ adds keyboard layers for a muscular AOR tune.
‘Rose Of Jericho’ is one of the strongest melodic rockers on the album, while the chorus of ‘Hearthmath City’ will make to tap your foot over and over again.

More modern and updated to current times, ‘Build The Love’ is an elegant melodic rocker with an AOR foundation, the catchiness of ‘Man Overboard’ brings to mind some Vega, then ‘Riptide’ is a joyful rocker with great guitar work.
The ballad arrives in ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’, piano driven AOR with lots of harmony vocals on the chorus, ‘All Bets Are Off’ pick up the tempo for a more classic sound, while closer ‘Undefeated’ is an infectious modern melodic rocker, again with a huge chorus.

The Japanese bonus track ‘Tomorrow Never Comes (Acoustic Version)’ adds acoustic guitars and synth orchestration to the mix, and this version works even better than the regular.

TREAT - Tunguska [Japan Edition +1] (2018) back

Treat 2018 and “Tunguska” shows a band with an updated, vital sound, punchy but extremely melodic and contagious. The band surprises with a songwriting, arrangements and sound production akin the geniuses of Vega, a bit more muscular, but equally catchy.
A runner for ‘Album Of The Year”.
