PETER HERMANSSON (feat members of Europe, Treat, Electric Boys, 220 Volt) – Second Glance (2021)

PETER HERMANSSON (John Norum, Talisman, 220 Volt) - Second Glance (2021) full
HERE

Foremost known for being the drummer in classic Swedish rockers 220 Volt, PETER HERMANSSON also has been part of the classic John Norum Band first line-up, member of Talisman, Mats Karlsson band, Martina Edoff band and many more. But Peter is a highly prolific songwriter too, producer and a very well trained lead vocalist as well.
Now he’s releasing the solo album ”Second Glance”, where he sings his own penned songs and drums / percussion of course. Hermansson is helped by top class Scandi from bands such as Europe, Treat, Electric Boys, 220 Volt, Grand Design, Blindstone and more.
And the drummer shows us he has more than drum sticks in his bag on a very good solo album.

Peter started drumming with 220 Volt decades ago before the band released its self-titled debut album in 1983. We already knew he is one of best Scandinavian skin basher, but on this new solo album, we get to experience much more of this multi-talented faces as vocalist, musician and songwriter.
Apart from drums & vocals on all songs, he plays bass on a few tracks as well and produced the whole thing with a clean approach. We also get to hear his 220 Volt band mates Mats Karlsson and Mats Vassfjord perform alongside other notable musicians guesting including Nalle Påhlsson (Therion, Zan Clan, Treat, Easy Action), John Levén (Europe), Björn Englén (Quiet Riot, Yngwie Malmsteen), Martin Thomander (Electric Boys) and more.

The album contains nine original tracks penned by Peter plus two covers, Deep Purple’s “Soldier of Fortune” and Nick Ashford’s “I Don’t Need No Doctor” (which has also been covered by Humble Pie, W.A.S.P. and many more).
The music on “Second Glance” is best described as melodic 70s /80s hard rock with blues touches, some more contemporary parts and a few ballads in the mix as well. Peter has a seasoned, grown-up rock voice that fits this music style very well.

Among the highlights, “Set Me Free” is a midtempo with some terrific guitars, “Last Goodbye” is an emotional classic rock ballad, while “Ain’t Gonna Crawl” adds a modern contemporary sound performed by Peter and 220 Volt band mater Mats Karlsson.
“Hero’s End”, a splendid and energetic bluesy hard rock song, another strong tune on the album together with “Revolution”, “Movin’ On”, “Perfect World” and the cool cover of ”Soldier Of Fortune” featuring Janne Stark of Grand Design on guitar.
