Long time out of print, American reissue label Eonian Records are making FREAKSHOW‘s self-titled available again, remastered by Rob Colwell of Bombworks Sound. This reissue is a tribute to the late Jeff Labar and Frankie Banali, whom formed this super-group with Miss Crazy’s sinher Marcus Allen Christopher, and the one an only bass of Tony Franklin, who is no stranger to super-groups having played in The Firm, Blue Murder and Whitesnake.

What do you get when you take 3 legendary musicians and one vocalist from a seasoned band? Answer: Freakshow! If you have been living under a the classic rock universe for the las three decades than you know these cats are capable of.

Franklin provides some of the smoothest bass lines you will ever hear, Banali’s playing his drums harder and faster than ever, LaBar kicks it with his world-renowned style of guitar, and Markus Allen Christopher has a set of pipes that can cross over to a Cinderella feel & all that kind of classic 80s & 90s type rock/metal vocals. Raspy and powerful.

While the ’80s LA rock scene is the main influence on “Freakshow”, the material and arrangements also go for a more modern, updated 2000’s hard rock sound.
It’s groovy rock n’ roll with its foundation coming from the dynamic rhythm section, bluesy hearty, with LaBar’s classic swirling (short and effective) solos. Add Christopher’s vocal style which sounds here like Robert Plant mixed with Vince Neil or Bret Michaels, and you have a brilliant and formidable combination.

Honestly, I can’t say enough about the Banali-Franklin chemistry; not to disrespect the work of Christopher and LaBar, but Banali & Franklin steal the show. They are that good.

Unfortunately the Freakhow project doesn’t lasted too much, but this sole album really rocks and worth your attention if you are looking for seasoned musicians in this genre – their playing is far from ordinary – and solid songs mixing the classic stuff with a modern approach.
