W.A.S.P. – The Best Of The Best (reissue + exclusive track) *HQ*
W.A.S.P. “The Best Of The Best” was reissued / re-released on a 15-track digipak format. There was an expanded 2-CD set in 2007, but it does not include the exclusive track especially recorded for the original “The Best Of The Best”.
The song in question is entitled “Unreal”, which is exclusive to this release.
Blackie Lawless said about the track; “It’s a song that I’ve had rattling around inside my head for a long time but it just wasn’t finished. The germination’s of it started back with W.A.S.P. album ‘Still Not Black Enough’ sessions.
For the last three records I’ve tried to do something with “Unreal” and it just never felt finished. Now it feels right and I’m glad we included it with this collection of music.“”The Best Of The Best” also features a cover especially recorded for this release; Elton John’s “Saturday Nights’ Alright For Fighting”.
Lawless’ thoughts about the cover: “There’s a story that goes with how “Saturday Nights’ Alright For Fighting” came to be. Stet Howland (drummer) and I were in my car listening to CD’s. We had a number of things we were listening to and were trying to come up with something unique for this album.
We put in “Saturday Nights’ Alright For Fighting” and listened to about half of it and we said ‘Well maybe, let’s listen to something else.’ I still wasn’t completely convinced it was right for us. I hit the eject button.
The stereo that I have in my car is one where once you pop a CD out the radio automatically kicks back in and “Saturday Nights’ Alright For Fighting” was playing on the radio. Both of us looked at each other like ‘Is this some sort of a sign?’
We started laughing and I asked Stet, ‘What do I need a lightning bolt shot up my ass to give me a hint to do the song?’ “.
Btw, it’s quite curious listening W.A.S.P. doing a cover of a Bernie Taupin / Elton John song… well, it’s a friggin’ metal monster version, and having just heard it, it’s safe to say that W.A.S.P. did serious damage to it!
“The Best Of The Best” is a great compilation to listen the best stuff created by W.A.S.P. between 1984-2000, plus an exclusive track.
