While most BLACK SABBATH fans are noticed, most casual hard rock / metal listeners doesn’t know the band released an official live CD with Tony Martin as frontman: “Cross Purposes Live“.
Recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo, London, on April 13th 1994, during the Cross Purposes Tour, the band at the moment included alongside Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler on bass, drummer Bobby Rondinelli, and long-time keyboardist Geoff Nicholls. The “Cross Purposes Live” CD package also included the concert filmed on VHS tape, later reissued on DVD.
The track-list consists mostly of ’70s Black Sabbath classics, so it’s a nice opportunity to check out ow Martin handles the Ozzy-era songs. In our opinion, he does a fantastic job. The tour was notable for being the first time the song ‘The Wizard’ had been played since early 1971.
It’s a great set list, and a great band at the time.
