MIDNIGHT CIRCUS – Money Shot (2005) *HQ*
Published by Perris Records almost two decades ago and almost sold out, now the label is distributing a remaining lot of CD’s of ”Money Shot”, the last album by MIDNIGHT CIRCUS. This four piece based in Texas was founded in the early Nineties by lead singer Rob Howl, an experienced cat from the ’80s.
Since its cover art (?) you know this is dirty n’ sleazy rock n’ roll. However, stylistically this band is more melodic hard rock than anything, with clean vocals and a strong late ’80s L.A. feeling.
”Money Shot” is the third MIDNIGHT CIRCUS album, and Howl decided to make some changes bringing as lead guitarist talented local hero Gregg Gill – another experienced musician – who not only delivers a hot 6-string work but also produced & mixed the album.
”Money Shot” is fun, party melodic hard rock where the guitars are chuggin’ right along with some smokin’ solos, and vocals takes you back to the Sunset Strip dayz. As examples, ‘Psychedelic Trippin’ has that ’90s Warrant vibe, ‘Tonight’ grooves ala Motley circa ’89, the catchy ‘Don’t Wait For Love’ is easy to the ears akin Poison or Tuff… you get the picture.
A well written, played and produced collection of songs to have a good time, ”Money Shot” is available in American CD shops again.
