FIRE ACTION – Until The Heat Dies (2024) *HQ*
Finnish melodic hard rockers FIRE ACTION are releasing a new album, ”Until The Heat Dies”, via Steamhammer / SPV. With three albums to their name, FIRE ACTION are anything but newcomers and have long established themselves as an integral part of Finland’s hard rock metal scene.
Fronted by veteran Pete Ahonen (Burning Point, Stargazery, Ghost Machinery) FIRE ACTION is all about anthemic choruses and easy 80s-like melodies. Yeah, sure, we heard all this before, but ”Until The Heat Dies” is a cool album impeccably played and produced.
Never afraid of a catchy melody, the Finns find a good balance between melody and heaviness. Also some keyboards like on “Hard Days, Long Nights” are part of the game and what blows out of the speakers is certainly entertaining. Especially the dark pounder “Dark Ages” shows the heavier side of Fire Action’s music.
And there is also a “but”. “Until the Heat Dies” is a solid album overall with good songs like “Incitement of Insurrection”, “Hard Days, Long Nights”, “Under the Gun”, and the power ballad “Survive” just to name a few. The ”but” comes from the linear sound of the band – more dynamics would have benefited the album as whole.
However, when your hear any track in a standalone mode, you can’t stop to tap your foot. That’s the point: all of the album’s tracks are fist-in-the-air (not a bad thing) but when you hear an entire album with too many ‘hymns’ it turns a bit repetitive.
Anyway, ”Until The Heat Dies” is a good rocking album with fine playing, and FIRE ACTION know how to write a rock n’ roll anthem for sure. Add these songs randomly in your playlist and you’ll like all of ’em.
