A few decades before he would grace the stage nightly with mega-star Shania Twain, Australian musician Randall Waller lead his band AVION with amazing guitars and vocals. AVION would release its first album “Avion” on RCA in 1983 [mixed by reputed Bob Clearmountain] and despite great songs, top notch production, radio friendly image & music, and major label back-up, the album just didn’t go anywhere.
There are so many great songs here with that classic early ’80s AOR sound, produced so incredibly well it becomes another one of those great frustrations in the music world. But Avion decided to continue and released two more strong albums, however when keyboardist and founding member Evan Murray died in a car accident when touring in 1987, Avion split.
Today March 12 “Avion” is being reissued (be aware there’s fake files floating the internet) after many years being impossible to find. The album is presented with its original U.S. / European cover art (the Australian was different).

Songs like ‘Diamond Eyes’, ‘Lady of the Night’, ‘Warrior’, ‘Never Let Me Go’ are pure Eighties magic, while ‘Once Bitten, Twice Shy’ remains a favorite more than 40 years later with its great rhythm guitar riff and sexy vocals. Waller commands the vocal stage so well it’s really amazing he never broke into the mainstream. He was guitarist for another excellent Aussie band in 1989: Dragon, later worked as solo artist, producer, and in the mid-90s established in America founding major success with Keith Urban and Shania Twain.
“Avion” will please melodic rockers and AOR fans from the first half of the glorious decade.
