Some days ago we featured in exclusive music from JAILHOUSE, the ’80s American band formed by ex members of Rough Cutt. A fine rockin’ band and with many songs recorded back in the day, but only one EP officially released.
Demon Doll Records put out ”Straight At The Light”, a worthwhile collection of JAILHOUSE songs. This compilation contains the breakthrough EP 1991’s “Alive In A Mad World” plus one additional live track from the same show at The Roxy not included on the original EP release, the RARE Jailhouse first ever recording 1988 Single-Sided cassette, and the songs from the Capitol Records recording sessions. Many of these are not present into the recently released (and featured here in exclusive) ‘Demos 89-90’ by FnA Records.
As special extra, the guys in JAILHOUSE – still active as a band – recorded a brand new song for this release, the title track “Straight At The Light”.
All with very good sound quality, the album offers a taste of Jailhouse’s signature sound, delivering high class Glam Metal, but always with one foot in the land of Melodic Hard Rock similar to Trixter, Danger Danger.

The album kicks off with “Stand Up,” a ferocious blast of rock that delivers the energy and attitude fans crave. Danny, Michael, Amir, and Matt hold nothing back, tearing through the song with high-octane intensity.
Other highlights of Straight At The Light is the inclusion of seven previously unreleased tracks, produced by Matthew & Gunnar Nelson and co-written by RATT frontman Stephen Pearcy. These songs provide an intriguing look at what could have been, though they don’t always live up to the hype. Tracks like “Sweet Angel,” “Haunt Me In My Dreams,” and “Land Of Today” showcase Jailhouse’s ability to craft catchy hooks and melodies – unfortunately it was too late for the band for being signed by a major label.

The inclusion of Jailhouse excllent ‘Alive In A Mad World’ is a plus as it sounds fantastic, another proof of how good these guys were. And we have a track that never made it into the original release, one for collectors and one to enjoy even more this rockin’ recipe.

On the technical side, the album benefits from remastering and an official license from the band, ensuring the best sound quality. For fans of the band and late ’80s U.S. melodic hard, the rare tracks and new single make this a must-have addition to their collection.
Jailhouse really had the qualities, but got a bit unfair lost in the jungle of great bands that was active during this magical era. Never it’s too late, so let’s rock with ”Straight At The Light”.
