TRAGIK – Crescendo (2025) *HQ*
2025 and hard rocking combo TRAGIK is back. After their strong and successful ‘Realm Angelic’ 2023 album (their best selling to date) it was time for a bit of a pause. For the band that is, obviously not for Phil Vincent, who as we all know by now just never seems to sleep. TRAGIK recharged batteries and added some extra power to songwriting. So here it is, titled “Crescendo“, album 13 by the U.S. classic hard rock act.
No less than 12 tracks have found their way to the new release. And we all know what we can expect; guitars and melodies galore. From opener ‘Phoenix Rising’ to closer ‘Judas’, we are once again treated to layered harmonies from Phil and masterful shredding from Vince O’Regan on a solid foundation of hard driving beats. And we are also served with a surprise reworked cover, this time BTO 1974’s classic ‘Givin’ It All Away’.
All in all things are going crescendo…
That Bachman Turner Overdrive’s ‘Givin’ it all Away’ is a balls to the wall cover and very enjoyable. We find on this album a couple of welcomed co-writes with James Kennedy as well: the straight ahead rocker ‘Living’, and ‘Human’, taking the ballad route, with Phil’s vocals backed by piano at the start before the song morphs into a satisfying power ballad.
Elsewhere, ‘Beyond’ is a top draw melodic rock tune and quite possibly one of Tragik’s best songs in recent times. ‘Phoenix Rising’ and ‘Burn It Down’ stick to the Tragik hard rock template – riff-driven and a catchy chorus – with ‘Judas’ seeing the album out in a flurry of riffs.
Always hard to suggest where to start to new listeners to the many works of Phil Vincent, however, this latest Tragik album is a perfect place. As for existing fans, they doubtless will enjoy this one.
