BLACK WATER RISING – The Edge (2025) HQ *Exclusive*
BLACK WATER RISING have been together since 2006, and it has been almost 10 years they released the last LP. Now 2025 it’s the time for their 4th album “The Edge“, and at first listen you can tell these New Yorkers have augmented they blend of heavy rock to the maximum.
What’s the saying? It’s as thick as toxic sludge? Well that perfectly encapsulates the sound of Black Water Rising on their new disc. This also notes the return of original guitarist John Fatturoso who hasn’t been with the band since their debut, self-titled record.
This thing’s got rows of teeth much like the great white that ultimately bests Quint in the classic ‘Jaws’. Proof positive is the one two three punch of “Slow Slide”, “Jokes On You”, and “Hail Mary”, tunes that will mess you up like a school of piranha that wants to feast on flesh.
However the following one-two punch of “Cynical ” and “Paralyzed” is even better, groovier, harder.
The dynamic with singer / guitarist Rob Traynor and fellow axeman John Fatturoso is just one of those combinations you don’t, or can’t, teach. They’ve just got it, ya know?
The title track simply mows you down like a Panzer Divison, and closer “Danger Zone” has all the elements one could want in a finishing track. Kickass? Yep. Catchy as all get-out? Affirmative. A tasty hook that’ll stick to your ribs? You better believe it.
I know it’s been awhile since we got any new music from Black Water Rising. But lemme tell ya, ”The Edge” was worth the wait and then some. For those who love some heads down, groovy bluesy-based riff-oriented hard rock that possesses a little of that Sabbath / Black Label Society grit – get this one in you, posthaste.
