As requested, here’s a rarity from the ’80s. Released back in 2007 by now defunct label Retrospect Records, this is ”Scratch N’ Sniff”, the 1989 recordings by 4-piece LOST CITY. ”Scratch N’ Sniff’‘ is a rarity even among the Retrospect catalog as only a few copies were made.
Here we have an interesting glam metal band hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada. The first two tracks are fun party hair metal with a commercial sound like across between Poison and L.A. Guns. It’s on third track ‘D.O.L.L.S’ where LOST CITY shows a different approach – a midtempo track with varied arrangements and fine lyrics. There’s a good guitar work, not what you expect from this genre / type of bands.
‘Hometown Bar’ returns to the feast with a Motley meets Pretty Boy Floyd’s swagger, then ‘Wicked Kitty’ is the most sleazy track on the entire album. Heavier and hard rock groove is ‘Go For The Throat’, and closer ‘Never Say Goodbye’ is a melodic rocker with a cool refrain, and again, unusual mid-part arrangements. Surprisingly, no power ballads from LOST CITY here.

A very obscure act from the U.S. American scene as even Retrospect had much info or bio from these guys, LOST CITY’s ‘Scratch N’ Sniff’ rocks with a bunch of good tunes, pretty well recorded & produced.
