Today has surfaced at all music retailers “Broken Rules (Live Indianapolis ’84)“, a concert capturing SURVIVOR live in all its splendor. The concert took place on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1984, just a few months after the release of ”Vital Signs” in September, Survivor’s first album Jimi Jamison as lead vocalist.
Performed at Market Square Arena, Indianapolis, IN, the show was professionally recorded for a Westwoood One Radio Broadcast. At the time the recordings were pressed on vinyl LP, and this ”Broken Rules (Live Indianapolis ’84)” is taken straight from a radio station vinyl.
Sound quality is excellent, Jimi’s voice so crisp and clear, all guitars and especially drums / cymbals very well mixed, obviously a multi-track recording.
It was 40 years ago that Survivor opened for REO Speedwagon at the Market Square Arena… for a New Year’s Eve concert that blew everybody away. Jimi was ON FIRE that night… delivering a near-perfect performance… and the band played better than almost every existing live recording of them that we have ever heard.
The band’s setlist included hits like “Eye of the Tiger” and tracks from their then-new album “Vital Signs”.
A must for Survivor / Jamison fans and ’80s melodic rockers.
