Taking a look at the band’s name and logo, MEGAHERA makes you think about extreme metal. However, the title of their third album – “Back To The ’80s” – and cover, prompted an immediate listen. And we were pleasantly surprised.
The name Megahera, in fact, means: MEGA (Great) Hera (intended as era) ie the Great Age, the ‘80s. Megahera born to give hope and support to all those who have seen their dreams crushed during the degenerating advance of the ’90s
Immediately after choosing the band name, singer/guitarist Mario Marras started the hunt for the perfect band mates: musicians with the same passion for 80’s Metal & Hard Rock who shared the same ideals. Taking inspiration from a variety of 80th bands Megahera managed to create their own blend. Stylistically, ”Back to the ’80s” blends traditional melodic heavy metal with hard rock swagger, some NWOBHM and even Bay Area Thrash. It’s dynamic without being disjointed, and every track feels like it belongs in a smoky club or a festival field packed with lifers.
“Back To The ’80s” is wonderful, powerful ode to the ’80s, but not cheesy. The compositions are traditional metal, but inventive, with many tempo shifts, some awesome progressive passages, clean breaks ala ‘Master Of Puppets’, and more.
If you love everything ’80s metal, you need to hear MEGAHERA’s “Back To The ’80s”. Thank me later.

The album’s production emulates the analog warmth of open-tape recordings without sacrificing clarity. It’s a sonic middle finger to overproduced metal, favoring grit over gloss. The guitars are sharp and melodic, the vocals theatrical but grounded, and the rhythm section drives like a war machine.

Berserker’s Arise is the blistering opener that wastes no time. Fast-paced, riff-heavy, and built to ignite a crowd. It sets the tone for the album’s no-compromise approach to the ’80s metal band revival. It’s pretty NWOBHM but has many other influences. Tommyknockers is he longest track on the album, and one of the most ambitious. It leans into U.S. metal territory with tempo shifts, layered solos, and a bassline that refuses to sit still. The chorus is pure fist-pumping glory.
Demiurge Hunting standout for its clean guitar passages and melodic introspection. It balances aggression with atmosphere, showing MEGAHERA’s ability to stretch beyond pure melodic thrash.

Playful yet intense, I’m Not Your Puppet features dynamic tempo changes and a chorus built for crowd chants. The solo is a highlight—flashy but never indulgent. Rock Heroes is tribute to the legends of the genre. Lyrically, it name checks influences and celebrates the communal spirit of metal. Musically, it’s arena-ready with big hooks and soaring leads.
Awakening begins with an eerie intro before settling into mid-tempo riffing. The clean chords add emotional weight, and the track builds steadily toward a cathartic finish. Then Warrior Pride is a slower, heavier cut that leans into doom-adjacent territory. The atmosphere is thick with grit and tension.

The title track Back to the ’80s is a triumphant closer. It fuses all the album’s elements—melody, power, nostalgia—into one final rallying cry. It’s theatrical, heartfelt, and built to echo through festival fields. At parts it’s hard rock, then 1986’s Metallica, always melodic and epic.

What makes MEGAHERA stand out in the crowded landscape of retro metal is their sincerity. They’re not chasing trends or algorithms. They’re chasing truth. Their music is a lifeline for fans who still believe in guitar solos, stage dives, and the sacred bond between band and crowd.
The 80s metal band is about sound and spirit. MEGAHERA understand that metal is more than music. It’s mythology. It’s community. It’s rebellion. And with ”Back to the ’80s”, they’ve delivered an album that feels like a homecoming for anyone who ever found salvation in distortion.

Somewhere up in the skies, the mighty DIO is looking down with a wry smile on his face, his legacy intact and his horns raised. It’s also rumoured that each time ”Back to the ’80s” is played, Metallica wake in cold sweats with the creeping sense that something ominous is coming.
”Back to the ’80s” is a must-spin for fans of Accept, Iron Maiden, Grim Reaper, WASP, mid-80s Metallica… and more, in fact, all ’80s metal variants. It’s not perfect, but it’s powerful, entertaining, headbangin’.
MEGAHERA have crafted a record that doesn’t just honor the past, it makes it feel alive again.
