Hailing from the far north of Germany, SACRED SEASON was formed in 1986 by singer Maarco Schultz and drummer Oliver Kukla. The Kiel-based band released two albums in the Nineties that are now very sought-after: “Sacred Season” (1994) and “No Man’s Land” (1998).
These are now being re-released as part of the stupendous Pride & Joy Music Classixx series with an extended booklet, remastered – and in the case of “No Man’s Land” even with 3 bonus tracks – and limited to 500 copies each.
You have to love vocalist / guitarist Maarco Schultz and the guys, if only for the fact that they celebrate pure melodic rock, and that in a more than a dark era for the genre. There’s some very good melodies on the layered “I Will Stay Forever”, beautiful ballads (“Help Me Through My Life” or “Pictures In My Head”), and catchy choruses (“Save Her”).
And “Voices”, a song written by the band in the late ’80s, is a real highlight and if released 1988 it would have been a hit. Schultz’s voice color is similar to the great Goran Edman, and that’s a plus to add quality to these well-crafted and crystalline produced songs. Fans of China (Swiss), Toto, Street Talk, Craaft, etc will love this really welcomed remastered reissue.
