Here’s the fresh release from the wonderful “Lost UK Jewels” series, now Vol. 32 “Won’t Look Back” contains the complete works of the band HARDLAND.
Formed in 1989 from the ashes of UK acts Voyager UK and FKM (both with albums on The Lost UK Jewels), the collective members of HARDLAND entered the Nineties with a more aggressive approach to their music. With the musical landscape changing almost daily, it made sense to ditch the keyboard laced sounds of their previous bands and toughen up their sound.
As bands like Thunder and Little Angels were ruling the roost in the UK, it was American acts like Cry Of Love and Badlands, to name a few, that were capturing the hearts of HARDLAND.
They recorded three demos, appeared on the ‘Metal For Muthas “92” compilation and gigged locally, but struggled to gain traction in a decade that was besotted with Grunge and Brit Pop.
From the towering Hard Rock of their earlier material, featuring vocalist van Markovic, through to the bluesy swagger of their final recordings featuring his replacement, Jonny Mellor, HARDLAND had a robust belief in what they were doing, a belief that was encapsulated by the likes of “Hammerfall’, ‘Get It Right’ and ‘Halfway To Heaven’.
It’s a travesty that these songs have been laying undetected for so many years!
