A native of Vancouver, Tad Campbell’s unconventional road to stardom began in 1980. While working on a luxury liner that was cruising the Australian coast, he was killing time while on shore leave, noticed an advertisement looking for a guitarist, and was playing with the Daydream Islanders that same night at a local resort.
After establishing in Canada circa 1981 Tad formed IDLE EYES. Scraping together every nickel he could, he recorded some demos and approached Cliff Jones, who was managing Payolas at the time. Jones used his influences to help land them a deal with WEA, even though there wasn’t actually a ‘band’ yet.

After the successful self-titled debut, IDLE EYES won four West Coast Music Awards – for Group of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year (for “Tokyo Rose”), and Campbell’s win for Songwriter of the Year. They were then asked to perform for British royalty at the opening ceremonies of Expo ’86 in Vancouver, with opening slots for Toto, Bryan Adams, Tears For Fears, and more. After their 2nd Album, the deal with WEA Records ended and Campbell’s decided to take the band independent route.

Produced, recorded and released by themselves, 1988’s ”Standing At The Edge” is IDLE EYES third and final album, and should be their most complete work, with a varied songwriting ranging from lite AOR and radio-friendly rock&pop to intelligent new wave.
Among our favorite cuts there’s the modest hit single “Blue Train”, the title track and the lead-off “Chains Have Fallen”, the AOR waves of “Standing At The Edge”, and the dynamic “I Want Action”.
Pure Eighties Canadian stuff. Highly Recommended
