Approximately 20 million copies sold worldwide since it original release, it’s time to celebrate the 50 Anniversary of one of PINK FLOYD‘s best moments; their album “Wish You Were Here”.
”Wish You Were Here [50 Anniversary]” includes the album newly remastered 2025, plus various remixes, outtakes, previously unavailable tapes and, for the first time, all nine parts of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” stitched together in one 25-minute masterpiece with a fantastic new Stereo Mix.
But wait, there’s more.
In particular, a two and a quarter hour previously unheard show of Floyd’s April, 1975 gig at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. This was before ‘Wish You Were Here’’s appearance so, in addition to early renditions of four tunes, there is the majority of ‘Dark Side of the Moon.’ While the “bootleg” description alerts us to the less than stellar sonics, the performance is tight and tough, even if the audio is somewhat compromised.

The studio selections have been again remastered to current standards making the music slightly clearer and more defined. David Gilmour’s now-iconic and timeless ringing four-note introduction to “Shine On…” sounds just as earth-shifting as ever and his intricate acoustic playing on the title track exhibits a bluesy/folksy quality indicative of his rightfully acclaimed talents.
While today’s technology allows anyone to connect the two long segments dividing “Shine On…”, having those finally linked, as apparently Gilmour had initially envisioned, closes the book on that renowned piece.

The concert displays how remarkably cohesive Floyd was jamming out on their prog/space rock for an extended “Shine On..” where Gilmour’s slide work is especially biting. The closing “Echoes,” the show’s only nod to pre-‘Dark Side…’ days, is another 22-minute, expertly conceived, often intense, sometimes avant-garde trip into the heart of the sun, with sax and female backing vocals added for the live experience.

Floyd followers will want to explore the worthy rarities on ‘Wish You Were Here 50’ while others who might have somehow missed delving into this rock archetype will have plenty to enjoy on what might be the final word for this archetypal recording.
