As requested, here’s ”Good Time Music”, the only album by U.S. rockers SLYBOYZ apperared on CD. Despite their name, this isn’t sleaze, but pure late ’80s American Melodic Rock. Formed 1989 in Boston, Massachusetts, SLYBOYZ released 3 EP’s and one full album, all by themselves and only on Cassette format but professionally recorded & produced.
Ironically, the got singed just when the band split in 1994 by Danish metal record label Nordic Metal, owned by Mika Botfeldt, the man behind the Scandinavian heavy metal fanzine Metalized. When Mika heard one the band’s cassettes, offered to release their music on CD. ”Good Time Music” contains SLYBOYZ tracks compiled from their 1991-93 cassettes.

Rich in harmony vocals – there’s 2 lead vocalists and all members contribute backing – hooks galore and impressive power ballads, SLYBOYZ’s sound & style is like a mix of Warrant, Nelson, and Danger Danger. And their songs are as good as anything the aforementioned acts released. Additionally, one of the lead singers has a vocal color very similar to the late Jani Lane.

The opening 1-2 salvo of ‘Solitaire’ and ‘Keep On Believin’ worth the price of admission alone; perfect melodic rockers. ‘What Is Love (Without You)’ is the best ballad Warrant never wrote (it’s great, believe us) but also the rockers (some pretty ‘hard’) ‘Dreamin” and ‘Hold On To My Heart’, while ‘The Higher You Get (The Harder You Fall)’ is a midtempo AOR gem. With its massive vocals ‘Live It Up’ seems taken from Nelson’s debut, and if you need an acoustically filled melodic tune just play ‘Autumn Angel’.

Why SLYBOYZ never make it big it’s a mystery. This was a first rate act in this genre, and not, they didn’t arrived too late into the scene; many bands such as Firehouse (another fine reference for SLYBOYZ’s sound) exploded in 1990, and these Bostonian deserved bigger things.
