As part of the awesome Japan-only “Alive The Live” CD series (discs professionally manufactured in Taiwan by King Records) here’s the fantastic “STRYPER – Live In Tokyo １９８５ [Alive The Live series]” CD.
This concert was recorded / filmed Live at Shiba Yubinchokin Hall, Tokyo, Japan 9th July 1985, to promotion STRYPER via TV broadcast and released on VHS too, now a collectors item.
Captured in front of a high-pitched, screaming Japanese audience, this set features songs from the first two STRYPER records ‘The Yellow and Black Attack’ and ‘Soldiers Under Command’. The band was charged-up and hungry as they who were only beginning to taste success and their popularity was growing rapidly. This is heavy melodic STRYPER before turned commercial during the 2nd half of the Eighties.

STRYPER were over Japan touring while ‘Soldiers Under Command’ still was being mixed, so when this concert was captured the album wasn’t even out yet. The version of “Surrender” on this recording is stunning. The overdriven guitars matched with the energy captured on tape are superb. This song and “Together Forever” seem to have completely different lyrics than the studio versions, perhaps because the album and songs were so new that Michael Sweet didn’t have the lyrics memorized yet!

The sound quality of this “STRYPER – Live In Tokyo １９８５ [Alive The Live series]” is superb: this is the only Stereo version available – there’s many bootlegs but all audio-Mono.
Believe it or not there’s even a bootleg of this ‘Live In Tokyo １９８５ [Alive The Live series]’ (which is a bootleg already), but with the Mono audio. So be aware if you see the CD for purchase to get this real, Stereo version.
