As part of the treasurable Steelheart Records ‘Lost US Jewels‘ series, here’s the highly regarded 1985 albums from XERON – “Does Anybody Hear…” – now remastered and put on CD for the first time, with added bonus tracks.
Carefully remastered from the original tapes in collaboration with the band, the limited to 500 “The Lost US Jewels Vol. 19 : XERON – Does Anybody Hear…” CD is already out of print.
Hailing from Los Angeles, California, XERON started life in ’78 before undergoing many line-up changes that saw only guitarist Trevor Jay as an ever-present member. With the arrival of singer Larry Leon, the true sound of XERON was born.
At this juncture the band started writing in earnest, with the results being the rather wonderful ‘Does Anybody Hear…’ EP that was released on Oronsay records in ’85. They were likened to “Queensryche meeting Journey” in the pages of ‘Metal Forces’, whilst Dave Reynolds at ‘Rock Candy’ compared them to the likes of Prophet and Chicago’s Saint.

With a rich commercial vein running through their music, XERON mixed a metallic sheen that added muscular depth to numbers like ‘Visions’ and ‘Changes Calling’. And whilst the overtly melodic ‘Lonely Street’ and ‘Does Anybody Hear…’ chased the radio airplay they so desperately deserved, this was no lightweight affair, this was AOR with balls!

However, pretty much after the EP-release the band seemed to stagnate, having run its course and they split in the same year. In the right hands and with the right label, XERON could have been up there with the likes of White Sister and Prophet.
