As requested, here’s “Thunder From The Mountain 2.0“, the remixed / remastered reissue of 1989’s ZION full length album, including a brand new song especially recorded by the band for this release, and refreshed artwork.
Not to be confused with other bands of the same name, this ZION originated in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1981 and eventually becoming known nationally as well as internationally when the band signed with the east coast label Image Records in 1988 for the release of ‘Thunder From The Mountain’ the next year.
A cult LP, ‘Thunder From The Mountain’ was produced by talented David Zafiro, and musically is a mix of Tygers Of Pang Tang most melodic side, ’80s KISS, and Strype – ZION came from the CCM movement – in fact they were one of the the White Metal pioneers. But their lyrics are not preachy all the time.

”Thunder From The Mountain” was about to be re-released 1990 by the biggest Christian Rock label Myrrh Records (Word) but Image Records refused the deal at the eleventh hour, and Myrrh went on to sign Holy Soldier, who enjoyed massive success. Bad luck for ZION, they would have enjoyed the pretty big promotion and distribution Holy Soldier had.
While the album was finely produced, this remaster, and especially the new mix, has noticeably improved the whole thing. There is a boost in bass and a number of guitar parts that remained buried in the mix on the original have risen to the surface.

Have I mentioned the guitars! New dialogue on “Sold You a Lie.” New song “The Big Fall” doesn’t exceed its classic neighbors, but it’s nice to hear some unheard bonus content.
The only song that wasn’t remastered is “Less of Me” – that song was already perfect in its original form – a heavy, raw hard rocker and the band was wise enough to preserve the original for this reissue.

Far from the bubblegum pop-metal of many bands of the MTV era, ”Thunder From the Mountain” is remembered for the wall of guitars that the band built their hooks on, and remastering has only given the beefcake steroids. Look out world!
Even the album’s ballad “Is It A Crime” lays on the lead guitar nice and thick. Thirty+ years later, songs like “Who Pulls the Strings,” “Kick in the Gates,” “Is It a Crime,” and the monster closer “Less of Me” stay burned into the gray matter, like the grooves on a record (this is available LP for the first time).
Pick up again this late ’80s hidden piece or discover it for the first time! HIGHLY Recommended
