Founded in Vancouver in the early Eighties by two talented cats from the Canadian musical scene, BODY ELECTRIC was a great band pretty unknown by general fans of the era. Keyboardist Bob Buckley (born in UK) and David Sinclair (guitar, vocals) were part of Straight Lines, a really nice AOR act which released two LP on a major label in the early ’80s. The band split soon but both decided to stay together for a new project.
They called Frank Ludwig (ex-Trooper, Union) as the lead vocalist, and Body Electric born. With Sinclair handling guitars & bass, and guest such as ex- Straight Lines bandmate Daryl Burgess, Doug Edwards (Skylark) and talented Marc LaFrance, the band recorded their self-titled debut released through Attic Records in 1984.
Circa 1986 David Sinclair, alongside guitar work, took the lead vocal duties too, and for their second album BODY ELECTRIC musically morphed to the lush, polished mid-Eighties sound.
Issued 1987, ”Walking Through Walls” blends like few equal doses or AOR, Melodic New Wave and Hi-Tech. With a crisp production handled by themselves and engineering & mix by monsters Mike Fraser and Bob Rock, this album is a truly great Canadian product o the time.
While the songs are poppy and radio friendly in nature, there’s a lot of guitar work all over the songs, even the Hi-Tech oriented present a driving solo. And the choruses & hooks are in the classic Canadian AOR style of the time: smooth delicious.
Songs like Strangers In Love, Liberty (an AOR pearl), I Don’t Know Why, Ordinary Madness, Lines Are Breaking, are sure to please fans of the genre. The bonus tracks are pro-recorded songs for the next album that never was. After The Storm, and Zero Gee being the best.
The last bonus, The Things You Didn’t Do, is a completely different beast, an elaborated song in the Camel, Alan Parsons Project style, with lots of piano, orchestration and grandiose classic vocals.
Things looked bright for BODY ELECTRIC with the album being well promoted, but the North American tour was cut short in the middle of ’87 when their record label Parallel One folded. The band followed suit shortly after.
Everyone went on to other projects, with Buckley gaining notoriety as a music songwriter and producer, with dozens of film and TV projects to his credit, as well. David Sinclair became musician for Sarah McLachlan, recording many albums with her and touring.
