Swiss premier hard rock band GOTTHARD has something new for the fans: their upcoming CD “More Stereo Crush” works like an expanded collection of theis latest album ‘Stereo Crush’ with plenty to dig into: five previously unreleased songs from the ‘Stereo Crush’ sessions, “Mayday” which had only been available as a video, a radio edit of the ballad “Burning Bridges”, and a brand-new duet of fan favorite “Liverpool” featuring Krokus veteran Marc Storace.
Taking a look at the five unreleased ‘Stereo Crush’ songs of those sessions, the band smartly spread these cuts out to provide dynamic peaks and softer terrain when necessary. It makes an acoustic-oriented, vocal driven ballad such as “Smiling In the Pouring Rain” to older AOR meets The Eagles avenues, the soothing harmonies nestled effortlessly against the clean picking to fade you into a tranquil scene of contentment.
Natural electricity sets the stage for “Right Now” and “Don’t Miss the Call” to check off all those midtempo or anthem-like boxes, the latter ideal for audience clapping and singalong enthusiasm during those key rhythmic / chorus components.
“Liverpool” and “Burning Bridges” from last year’s Stereo Crush get the revisit treatment – the former adding Marc Storace’s unmistakable bluesy voice to an already infectious catchy hard rock highlight, while the latter gets right to the vocal early to make it a shorter version still melting hearts due to its playful vocal melodies wrapped around the laid-back chord combinations. Producer Charlie Bauerfeind keeps the band’s sound lean yet forceful to resonate with a wide array of music followers – older generation to their offspring.
If you miss the sound of 70s / 80s hard rock a la Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, just taken to a slightly more thoughtful, nuanced manner, then Gotthard is more than worth the investment to get acquainted with.
