We instantly loved her voice when heard PATTY SMYTH fronting SCANDAL on their 1982’s self-titled debut EP, and even more on their sophomore LP ‘Warrior’. By the time ‘Warrior’ came out, the band was already billed as “SCANDAL featuring PATTY SMYTH”.
Columbia Records (also Scandal’s label) had big plans for Smyth, and shape her into a mainstream female star. Her solo debut ”Never Enough” album was released in 1987, three years after the band’s breakup in 1984. According to Patty, the album was never supposed to be a solo record; it was meant to be a record by ”Scandal Featuring Patty Smyth”. Even though the band had broken up, Smyth was still working with guitarist Keith Mack.

So expect the Scandal sound & style, just more 1986 production-wise, polished catchy tunes. But even on the poppiest numbers Patty Smyth’s great raspy voice can add a “bite” to it. Her passionate vocals and ability to deliver emotional, high-energy performances are unique. Just listen to ‘Tough Love’… wow.
There’s great session musicians playing on this album. Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian, as well as others associated with the band The Hooters, including producer Rick Chertoff, had a significant hand in the making of this album. There’s master Anton Fig on drums & percussion, Kasim Sulton (of Sulton-Price) on harmony vocals, and more.

This ”Never Enough [Remastered Expanded Edition]” delivers a clear crisp sound and features cool bonus tracks, including Patty’s contribution for the “Caddyshack II” Original Soundtrack.
Pure ’80s. Highly Recommended
