New year, and we have a new PHIL VINCENT album, but this time, something different. Titled “Thirst Trap“, this 2026 effort marks a slightly musical change for Vincent. The classic melodic hard rock / 80-inspired hooks are all over the album, however there’s a welcomed different approach – both sonically and songwriting-wise.
Now Vincent’s guitar delivery – he mostly play rhythm guitar, solos are performed by capable Vince O’Regan – is much more open. There’s much more open/power chords into this album like never before.
Additionally, Vincent explores a proggy / pomp territory on a couple of songs (around the 9-minute mark each) with a surprisingly – and welcomed – STYX / TOUCH / MARK MANGOLD feeling. And works very well for him. Yeah, the melodic hard rockers are very strong (influenced by WINGER like never before), but it’s on the Pompy songs where we discover a new, interesting Phil Vincent facet.
And if you need even more variation Phil does a cover of Black Sabbath’s classic ‘Never Say Die’, nicely done, faithful to the original yet with Vincent’s touch.

Phil Vincent has certainly not lost his knack of penning riff heavy rockers as ‘Scene of the Crime’ and ‘Only One Way Out’ show, whilst ‘Consequence’ continues his fine run of ballads with guitar heft.
‘Afterthought’ and the title track both are the long, proggy melodic pomp tracks, and allows Vincent to unleash his inner Seventies / early ’80s love for the genre. Full of keys, guitar solos and plenty of pomp touches these two songs are amongst the best he has composed / recorded to date.

He’s only gone and done it again. An album full of melodious hard rockers with those two longer, pomp rock influenced songs, offering something different this time, creating another satisfying listen.
Highly Recommended
