SUPERTRAMP continues the 50th anniversary celebrations in their half-speed remaster reissue series with three titles: 1977’s ”Even in the Quietest Moments…”, ”1979’s Breakfast In America” and 1982’s ”…Famous Last Words…” All three albums have been remastered 2026 at half-speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios. The new projects all arrived on March 20, 2026.
”…Famous Last Words…” was released in 1982 and is the final album to feature the band’s “classic line-up” of Roger Hodgson, Rick Davies, John Helliwell, Dougie Thomson, and Bob Siebenberg. The album was a commercial success, reaching #5 in the U.S. and number 6 in the U.K. It’s notable single was “It’s Raining Again”, and for its unforgettable cover art, one of the best ever.
Indeed ”…Famous Last Words…” was the last album that Roger Hodgson made with Supertramp before seeking a solo career, and he made sure that radio would take kindly to his last hurrah with the band.
Sporting an airy and overly bright pop sheen, …Famous Last Words… put two singles on the charts, with the poignant “My Kind of Lady” peaking at number 31 and the effervescent smile of “It’s Raining Again” going to number 11. The album itself went Top 10 both in the U.S. and in the U.K., eventually going gold in America.
The songs are purposely tailored for Top 40 radio, delicately textured and built around ear-friendly melodies and urbane choruses. And that’s not a bad thing; it was 1982, and even Genesis followed this path.
“…Famous Last Words…” (Remastered 2026) sounds awesome, not brickwalled, perfectly balanced better than ever.

Hodgson’s abundance of romantically inclined poetry and love song fluff replaces the lyrical keenness that Supertramp had produced in the past, but taking this as rock&pop, is above the bar to most other bands in the genre circa 1981-82.
Hodgson’s English appeal and fragile vocal manner works very well for these melodic tunes, even more with the glossy sound and breezy feel ready for the FM. Curiously, Hodgson gave his solo album, 1984’s In the Eye Of The Storm, a mildly progressive feel, quite unlike his last appearance with his former group.

About the tracks, “Crazy” is a typical Supertramp’s song that perfectly represents their unique and unmistakable sound. “It’s Raining Again” is a pop song, the most commercial track on the album – a perfect example of how to make a commercial song with good quality.
“Bonnie” is one of the highlights on the album. This is a great love song, one of the best composed by Davies, I think. “Know Who You Are” is a sad and beautiful number, made by the hand of Hodgson, very personal. It’s a song with great melody performed by a great sensitive singer alone with his acoustic guitar.
“My Kind Of Lady” is a slow tune well sung by Davies, who harmonizes his natural voice with a falsetto vocal. It’s a tribute to the 50s, one of the best musical moments of Davies. “C’Est Le Bon” is a classic Roger’s song that stood the test of time, well arranged with a catchy melody and good lyrics.

Then “Waiting So Long” is very progressive and with fantastic musical performances where the epic development of the song can be connected with their great classics. “Don’t Leave Me Now” closes the album in a great style, a bit dark, about solitude and fear of loneliness. It has a strange title considering it’s sung by Hodgson, the one who was leaving.

While a product of its time whith the need of commerciality – and that’s not a bad thing at all – “…Famous Last Words…” has almost all the ingredients that made Supertramp a great band, one of the most creative, one of the most respected and one of the most successful in the progressive rock music. I highly recommend this album to all Supertramp and classic rock fans.

A Classic, now with a great remastering respecting the original tape sonics.
Highly Recommended
