Founded by uber-talented guitarist & songwriter Jack Ponti, Melodic Rock band SURGIN’ grew out of the New Jersey scene in the early ’80s alongside the likes of Bon Jovi. Jack had know Jon Bongiovi for a long time indeed, they had been in a band called ”The Rest” together. Over the years, Ponti became songwriting partner for Bon Jovi, but also for many other hard rock major acts.
SURGIN finally released their debut album in 1985, their only official LP, a wonderful slice of mid-80s Melodic Hard Rock / AOR. But Ponti, a prolific songwriter, previously put on tape dozens of his songs for Surgin’ (with many of these being recorded by other major acts later).
“Electric Nights The Final Chapter” is a compilation of these demos, never released songs, where sound quality varies but what matters is the fantastic melodies and catchy choruses all over these great songs, very much in the style of Bon Jovi first album, Aldo Nova, Virginia Wolf, etc. As example, the song ‘Waiting In The Shadows’ was recorded later, re-worked and re-titled, by Keel for their 1987 self-titled album.
