Hailing from Italy, TO THE MAX! ia power trio formed by young musicians still in their twenties ,but with a vast experience in such diverse bands ranging from classic metaland black metal to sleaze hard rock.
Titled “Two The Max!“, this is the This Verona-based band sophomore studio album, consisting of a properly number of 10 tracks in a properly 40-minute package.
This is an energetic, no frills, full-throttle rock n’ roll album where TO THE MAX! pushes boundaries with a genre / style they call ‘Action Rock’, seamlessly blending gritty Hard Rock riffs, infectious Funk grooves, and raw punk attitude into a powerful, distinctive sound.
Each song pulses with vibrant energy and dark tonal layers, delivering rocking songs plent of fuzz and a vintage feeling, at places taking elements from ’70s doom ala Budgie, early Nazareth and even Black Sabbath. It’s a high-octane celebration of genre-bending creativity and rock passion that demands to be played loud.
While some of the genres put into this musical cocktail aren’t our faves, there’s a very interesting TO THE MAX! approach to create something unique. And for the most part works.
Their music is never monotonous, as it varies from track to track, sometimes leaning toward rock ‘n’ roll, sometimes toward vintage hard rock or punk, and, as mentioned, not shying away from excursions into doom. The rhythm section of bass player Mattia Fraccaroli and drummer (also lead vocalist) Alessandro “Ale” Marchi is powerful, and brother Nicola Marchi’s guitar masterfully handles both riffs and solos.
Their ability to diversify stylistically is a guarantee for the future of this very young group, because navigating different genres while maintaining a respectable compositional standard is synonymous of undeniable technical prowess.
The band has everything it takes to stand out and make impact: solid effective songs, adequate technical ability, a credible sound, an abundance of energy, a musical culture that starts from the fundamentals and updates with a modern sonic approach, and last but not least, the right image and attitude.
In short, they have what it takes to appeal to both grumpy old men (like this writer) and their younger peers.
