As requested, here’s “Ignition“, the studio solo debut album of former Yngwie Malmsteen vocalist MARK BOALS. Later Boals would become one of the most requested Rock vocalists – here delivers some amazing melodic hard rock / melodic metal tunes. Only released in Japan, “Ignition” is a very hard to get CD.
Boals is joined by solid musicians with Chris Frazier (Foreigner, Whitesnake) on drums, former Yngwie bass player Barry Dunaway, and a great guitarist called Earl Baker… which in fact is Doug Aldrich (Burning Rain, Whitesnake) with a fantasy name due to contractual issues.

Musically Boals cover many styles, showcasing his versatility. ‘Jane’ and ‘Don’t Dance With The Devil’ both are heavily similar to some of Yngwie’s songs in the early 90s with Goran Edman. Midtempo rocker ‘Find Our Way’ brings to mind Talisman, then ‘My Turn’ is a wonderful ballad akin Europe – this is a fantastic song.
Then Boals deliver bluesy hard rockers in ‘Tallahassee Nightmare’ (very Mr. Big), ‘(She’s Not) Daddy’s Little Girl’ has a Burning Rain groove, while ‘Rip Your Hair Out’ is uptempo rockin’ fun.
We never have enough Mark Boals. Highly Recommended
