After melodic hard rockers SHY toured America with BADLANDS, ENUFF Z’NUF and SLEEZE BEEZ, the band’s frontman Tony Mills heard nothing from his bandmates for around three months, and was eventually presented with demos for the next album as a fait accompli. Mills disliked the new material, and the rest of SHY fired the singer.
Ex AFTER HOURS vocalist John Francis joined, but SHY actually waited 12 months for Francis because he was tied up contractually, and the band opted for vocalist Wardi to record the album ‘Welcome to the Madhouse’. Then SHY went on hiatus in 1995.
The catalyst for SHY’s reunion with Tony Mills was a couple of releases of outtakes and live material issued by Neat Records in 1999 (one of which, ‘Regeneration’, the group briefly attempted to push as a brand new record). Mills eventually agreed to come on board and the result was the very good comeback album ‘Unfinished Business’ we featured here yesterday.
But let’s go with ”Regeneration”, a little gem for SHY fans and ’80s Melodic Hard Rock devotees. The album consists of SHY songs written & recorded in the ’80s as potential material for “Brave The Storm”, “Excess All Areas”, and “Misspent Youth”. None of the 15 tracks were used and were unreleased. That’s not meaning these were weak songs, SHY simply wrote a lot!
All songs on ”Regeneration” are demos with a fine sound quality, finished songs with proper arrangements and well recorded & mixed. Not ‘outtakes’ at all – many rock bands would kill for any of these!
