After the Von Groove post featured, one of you asked for vocalist Mike Shotton other band his was involved with: THE OUTPATIENCE, and their album, initially only released in Japan, titled ”Anxious Disease”.
Actually, THE OUTPATIENCE and ”Anxious Disease” is mostly known for featuring all GUNS N’ ROSES members as guests: Axl Rose & Slash o nthe title track, Duff McKagan on one song, and Izzy Stradlin not only playin guitar guitar but also writing a song. Additionally, top guitarist Steve Stevens (BILLY IDOL) drops an amazing lead solo.
And why GUNS N’ ROSES members appear on this album? ‘Cos THE OUTPATIENCE was the hard rock band of guitarist West Arkeen, who is best known for co-writing several GUNS N’ ROSES songs, and for many other ’80s acts such as PHANTOM BLUE, ASPHALT BALLET, BOTHER CANE, and more…
The group’s lineup was rounded up by guitarist Joey Hunting of BILLY JOEL / DAVID LEE ROTH, bassist James Hunting of EDDIE MONEY / DAVID LEE ROTH, drummer Abe Laboriel Jr. of PAUL McCARTNEY / BRYAN ADAMS, and keyboardist Gregg Buchwalter.
A super group with a rocking sound similar to GUNS N’ ROSES ‘Use Your Illusion’ style. Why THE OUTPATIENCE din’t make it big? The group disbanded when Arkeen died 6 months after the album was released…
The album was produced by Noel Golden, whose credits include Slash’s Snakepit, Neurotic Outsiders and the Beth Hard Band, and co-produced by Arkeen. And was mixed by Duane Baron, whose credits include Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe and Poison.
”Anxious Disease” was released in Japan in 1996 and were shopping the record to labels in the States however six months on May 30, 1997, Arkeen was found dead in his Los Angeles home. His management company said that Arkeen had been at home recovering from severe burns, and that his death was the result of an “accidental opiate overdose.”
In 2004, ”Anxious Disease” received a posthumous release in the US and Europe.
”Anxious Disease” is a strong album, with solid songwriting and class performances. It’s the kind of records that gets better and better with each listen, and has perfectly stood the tests of time.
