UNICORN UMBRELLAS is an awesome musical project assembled by Swiss keyboardist & composer Beat Zimmermann. In 2024, Beat teamed up with a group of world-class musicians for a melodic prog-rock album, ”Every Picture Tells a Story”, featuring nine original compositions. “The songs blend my fusion influences with my prog-rock roots. I’m thrilled with the phenomenal musicians involved—they’re doing an outstanding job,” Beat shares.
We have the unique Michael Sadler (SAGA) on vocals, Todd Sucherman (STYX) on Drums, Zlatko Perica (TANGERINE DREAM) on Guitars, and René Maurer on Bass, alongside Beat playing piano, synths, mellotron, and more.
The musicianship on ”Every Picture Tells a Story” is simply outstanding, from performances to arrangements – and the songs are very good, benefited for being short regarding progressive, 4/5 minutes average.

Musically, this is the kind of prog we love: dynamic, uptempo, bordering melodic hard rock at places. This is accentuated by Sadler’s smooth pipes, and Sucherman expansive beats – this man is such a great drummer!
And to round up a top class product, production, mix & mastering are top notch. Fans of TOTO, MARILLION, Denander’s RADIOACTIVE, MYSTERY, of course SAGA / STYX (and all eager to hear stupendous music) need to check out UNICORN UMBRELLAS.
