SAHARA (SWE) – Sahara [AOR Heaven release] (2001) *Rare*
As requested, here’s the now rare self-titled CD by Swedish group SAHARA – there’s many bands named SAHARA, but this one originated from Göteborg, Sweden – formed by vocalist / songwriter Ulrick Lönnqvist and guitarist Peter Lidström, helped in the recording by capable session musician & friends, including Kaspar Dahlquist of prog metallers Treasure Land and Stormwind.
SAHARA musical style is class, elegant AOR from the pure Scandinavian school, sonically in the league of STREET TALK, BAD HABIT, Denander’s RADIOACTIVE, JOURNEY, etc, driven by a strong guitar work, clean vocals, and melodic choruses. The song ‘Silent Rain’ has a certain BON JOVI feel. Michael Erlandsson contributes backing vocals all over the record, and he’s a fine reference too for the music comprised on “Sahara”.
All songs are good, but from the middle of the CD to the end are even better!”
Released by AOR Heaven Records and distributed by Point Music – two companies that really helped for the Melodic Rock / AOR resurgence – now this CD is out of print and it’s very hard to find.
Vocalist Ulrick Lönnqvist name will ring a bell for sure, as currently concentrated in songwriting has contributed songs for the latest albums of CREYE, ROBIN McAULEY, BAD HABIT, ROB MORATTI, CRAZY LIXX, ONE DESIRE, and more… simply one of the best and most requested writers from the genre.
