TOM DE LUCA had success as songwriter during the ’80s, unfortunately not the same happened with his recording artist career. Tom got a contract with major label Epic and his debut album ‘Down To The Wire’ was ready to be released in 1986, but due to some record company troubles only the initial, limited batch of the album hit the stores.
Many tracks for a supposed second album were already taped, some in a pre-production form, but of course, the sophomore opus never materialized.
Some kind of a myth among AOR / Melodic Rock fans is that a second TOM DE LUCA album exists, released under the title “Captured” around 1987. That never happened, but finally, after many years shelved, these recordings were finally released on CD a few years ago.
But this compilation of demos titled – yeah, “Captured [2nd Album / The Sessions]” – has different versions, and some songs not present in the CD. In many ways, the demos here are even better. TOM DE LUCA demoed more songs later, where the great Mike Slamer (Steelhouse Lane, Seventh Key) was involved.

TOM DE LUCA also composed many songs recorded by major artists such as STEELHOUSE LANE, SPREAD EAGLE, ALDO NOVA, MOLLY HATCHET, THE JOE PERRY PROJECT, DARBY MILLS, and more.
Among the demo songs included into “Captured” there’s 3 which were included as bonus tracks in the ”Down To The Wire” YesterRock CD reissue (featured here on 0dayrox), but the tracks are slightly different, especially the mix.

The overall sound quality on ”Captured [2nd Album / The Sessions]” is very good. A highly enjoyable stuff for all melodic rockers / 80s music fans out there.
DeLuca was killed in his home in Encino, a neighborhood of Los Angeles, by an intruder on July 10, 2025, along with his wife, “American Idol” music supervisor Robin Kaye. DeLuca was 70 at the time of his death. RIP Tom.
