FnA Records has unearthed lost recordings from KID CURRY, which are now available via an album titled “Fire & Ice“. KID CURRY predated KK Wilde that was formed by two KID CURRY members, Chris Curry (lead vocals) and Eddie Wilde (guitar).
A long-lost chapter of 1980s arena melodic hard rock history is finally coming to light. KID CURRY, the Hollywood-based band once poised for major-label stardom, will officially release their unreleased debut recordings, nicknamed ‘The Epic Tapes’ but released as ”Fire & Ice” through FnA Records.
Professionally multi-track recorded, the album was ready to be released on major label Epic, but as happened with many bands, industry troubles put ”Fire & Ice” in the freeze indeed.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1985, KID CURRY — featuring Chris Curry (vocals), Michael Kramer (drums), Eddie Wilde (guitar), Rick Hansen (bass), and Rich Hall (keys) — was built from the ground up as an arena-level act, with a sound similar to AUTOGRAPH and ROUGH CUTT.

Within a year of forming, the band had already made a significant impact on the Sunset Strip, securing two billboards on Sunset Boulevard, a presence in Tower Records, and recording sessions at the legendary Clover Studios, known for work associated with Bruce Springsteen’s production team.
The band’s rise accelerated when their independently produced music video landed on MTV, climbing to #1 on Sunday nights. With encouragement from the network, KID CURRY entered MTV’s Basement Tapes competition — and won — generating national buzz and industry attention.

That momentum led to management by Noel Monk, the legendary figure behind Van Halen’s rise. Monk, already familiar with Chris Curry from earlier years, quickly secured the band a deal with Premier Talent Agency, the world’s largest booking agency at the time. KID CURRY began touring nationally, opening for major acts while also headlining their own shows, positioning themselves as one of the most promising emerging rock bands of the era.
“From the first time I saw Kid Curry, I didn’t see a club band — I saw an arena band,” said Noel Monk. “They had the sound, the look, and most importantly, the attitude. You can’t teach that. They were built to play in front of 20,000 people a night.”

“What separated Kid Curry from everyone else on the Strip was simple — they were already thinking bigger than the room they were in,” Monk continued. “Most bands were trying to get signed. These guys were already performing like they’d been signed for years.”
Under the guidance of Epic Records executive Dave Novak, the band entered the studio to record what was intended to be their debut major-label release. Despite completing the record, the project was never officially released, and the band ultimately disbanded — leaving behind a collection of recordings that became the stuff of legend.

“There are bands that hope to get there, and then there are bands that are already there before anyone else realizes it,” Monk added. “KID CURRY was already there.”
Unbeknownst to many, drummer Michael Kramer, who also served as an engineer and co-producer, preserved the original multitrack recordings, videos, and archival materials at his Sherman Oaks residence for decades.
“Mike is the reason this music still exists,” says Chris Curry. “He had the foresight to save everything. When we revisited the tapes, it was clear — this band was the real deal. We were built for arenas.”

Nearly 40 years later, those recordings have been restored and compiled by the band with the name ‘The Epic Tapes’ and released by FnA as “Fire & Ice”, offering fans and historians an authentic look at a band that stood on the brink of major success.
The release not only showcases the band’s powerful sound and songwriting but also serves as a time capsule of a defining era in rock music — a kick ass collection of late ’80s hard rock tunes plenty of melody that confirms ”KID CURRY’s status as a true arena-caliber act.
KID CURRY is on par with any major band of its time. “Fire & Ice” isn’t just a collection of demos, but finished songs (and really good songs!), an album that could have made it big back in the day.
