“Recording the song ‘Brown Sugar’ with Billy F Gibbons and Slash was a full-circle moment for me,” says Montana. “My first brush with music was finding a Guns N’ Roses tape, and later I became a die-hard ZZ Top fan. Billy is like family, and seeing him play “Brown Sugar” at our Wise River Club made me realize it had to be the one. To have these childhood heroes, Billy, who’s become a mentor, and Slash, who lit that early spark on this track with me is beyond a dream.”
Named by none other than actor Charlie Sheen, ”Entire State Of Tim Montana” includes sixteen tracks featuring assists from music’s heaviest hitters including Jerry Cantrell, Slash, Billy F Gibbons and cameos from Martin Sheen, Charlie Sheen, and Robert Patrick.
Rather than chasing trends, Montana doubles down on everything that has earned him a devoted following: Southern rock grit, hard rock muscle, country-rock storytelling, and enough swagger to fill sixteen tracks. The result is an album that feels less like a carefully calculated studio project and more like an open invitation into the entirety of Montana’s world.

The album opens with the theatrical “Courtroom,” featuring spoken appearances from actors Martin Sheen, Charlie Sheen, and Robert Patrick. It’s an unconventional introduction that immediately establishes the record’s cinematic ambitions before launching into the heavier material. From there, “Beautiful Hate” wastes little time reminding listeners that Montana’s greatest weapon remains his knack for pairing crushing riffs with memorable hooks.
The lead single, “Break Me Down,” immediately follows, and it remains one of the album’s emotional centrepieces. Built around thunderous guitars before exploding into an anthemic chorus, the track balances vulnerability with aggression. Montana’s lyrics about anxiety, control, and redemption add genuine emotional weight, proving there’s more beneath his rugged exterior than bravado alone.

That balance between toughness and honesty becomes one of the album’s defining strengths. “Long Long Year” slows the pace just enough to highlight Montana’s songwriting, reflecting on hardship with equal parts grit and resilience. Songs like “When It’s Over” and the closing “Everything I’m Not” continue that introspective thread, allowing cracks in the armour to emerge without sacrificing the record’s intensity.

Additionally, collaboration plays a major role throughout the album, and thankfully the guest appearances never feel like marketing gimmicks. Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains) elevates “Kinda Like It” with unmistakable guitar textures and his unmistakable voice that naturally complement Montana’s raspy delivery, while rising rock and metal artist Royale Lynn adds welcome contrast on the number “Crown of Ash.”
Meanwhile, “Watch Me Drown,” featuring Indigenous American artists First Crazy Dog and WolfBear, injects another layer of personality using their musical culture into an already varied tracklist.

The album’s biggest headlining collaboration arrives with the track “Brown Sugar,” featuring Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash and ZZ Top vocalist and guitarist Billy F. Gibbons. Rather than overwhelming the song, both legendary guitarists enhance it with exactly the kind of electrifying performances fans would hope for. Additionally, Gibbons lends his voice to the track. The chemistry is undeniable, making the track feel like a celebration of Montana’s influences while reinforcing his own identity as a modern torchbearer for riff-driven rock.

Montana understands exactly how to craft songs designed for live audiences, and nearly every chorus feels built to be shouted back from festival crowds.
If there’s one criticism to be made, it’s that sixteen tracks occasionally stretch the album beyond its strongest moments. Some songs revisit familiar lyrical and musical territory, causing the middle section to lose a bit of momentum. Still, Montana’s charisma and conviction prevent the record from becoming repetitive, and the production keeps every track sounding massive without becoming overly polished.

What ultimately makes ”Entire State of Tim Montana” succeed is its authenticity. Montana isn’t trying to become something he’s not. As he describes it, this is “a collision of my heroes and my scars,” and that description couldn’t be more accurate.
