As part of the awesome Japan-only release “Alive The Live” CD series (discs professionally manufactured in Taiwan by K I N G  S T R E E T Records) here’s the one and only Ronnie James DIO ”The Netherlands ‘83 [Alive The Live series]” CD.
Right after Ronnie Dio and Vinny Appice had quit Black Sabbath, they formed their own band, titled DIO. It seemed to be an obvious choice for a name although this was never meant to be a solo act. Having traveled together to England to seek out their ideal bass and guitar accomplices, they finally struck gold with Dio’s old Rainbow counterpart Jimmy Bain who recommended Sweet Savage guitarist Vivian Campbell.
Dio and Appice quickly arranged a rehearsal and recorded Holy Diver and Don’t Talk To Strangers (originally conceived by Sweet Savage) as an audition for Campbell, an occasion that saw the guitarist finally being committed to the Dio line-up for Holy Diver.
Holy Diver, their debut album released in 1983, remains the undisputed highlight of Dio’s career… and, indeed, one of the finest pure heavy metal albums of the 1980s. The accompanying tour landed Europe, and this show recorded at Muziekcentrum Vredenburg, Utrecht, The Netherlands, 4th December 1983 brings the band with a more primal accent and delivered with an intensity that no studio recording could ever hope to capture.
K I N G S T R E E T revisits this classic performance from the one and only DIO with a fully restored and professionally remastered original soundboard. Presented with background notes and timeline photos.

This Dutch 1983 show is a highly prized account of DIO’s legacy, capturing the insane, raw power of a relatively fresh outfit, hungry for action. The band explodes on stage with the galloping ‘Stand Up and Shout’ led by Ronnie’s lung-bursting screams.
Appice’s huge drum sound kicked off ‘Straight Through the Heart’ and Campbell nailed solo after solo as the band fed off the enthusiasm of the crowd who became ever more vociferous as the set progressed, and by the time they reached ‘Stargazer’ and ‘Heaven and Hell’ Ronnie was leading his flock through one raucous sing-a-long after another.
The iconic keyboard hook led into an irresistible ‘Rainbow In The Dark’ and after an electrifying ‘Evil Eyes’ the show came to an end with the huge ballad, partly penned by Campbell in his Sweet Savage days; ‘Don’t Talk to Strangers’.

DIO were on fire during those early tours and for anyone lucky enough to have been there, it was a privilege to witness the raw energy and power from all concerned.
Debut album Holy Diver remains the undisputed highlight of Dio’s career, but here on stage, it’s delivered with true heavy metal fire
HIGHLY Recommended

Thank you so much for this one.

This show is without any doubt one of the best live shows I’ve ever heard! You can feel the energy! Wish I would’ve been there!

I had this show on tape for years as it was transmitted on Dutch radio. At one point I even transferred it to cd. Unfortunately due to limitation of the tape the show wasn’t complete. Part of the drum solo was missing as I had to turn the tape…
