“The Legend Of The Six Kings” is the upcoming new studio album by Italian band FROZEN CROWN. This five-piece loves Winter. Frozen landscapes. Yes, they are heavily influenced by the Game Of Thrones saga and Tolkien. And of course, they play melodic anthemic power metal. If all these things are not of your interest, let me tell you FROZEN CROWN’s technical musicianship is second to none, and they write very good, catchy songs.
The ten brand-new tracks expand the band’s dynamic repertoire into a slightly darker, but more commercial that never before. Yes, on this new CD FROZEN CROWN found the formula to make their songs infectious, hymn-like.
First single ‘Reborn’ is one of the best songs FROZEN CROWN has written to date. Perhaps purists will scoff at this as it’s not their traditional double bass power metal sound. For us, it’s melodic heavy metal bliss. It sets its hooks in us upon first listen.
And the rest of the album has some terrific melodies and constructs. The album starts with the shot off the bow ‘Lightning In The Sky’. Double bass intensity, fast paces riffage, and fantastically strong vocals from Giada “Jade” Etro. It’s both expected and exhilarating.

‘Winter Hearts’ has the same intensity but is effectively spaced out in the album order. This track also sprinkles in growl vocals from guitarist Federico Mondelli. While not a fan of growl vocals generally, a bit sprinkled about has a nice contrasting effect that adds a cool dynamic to the sonics.
“Who Wants to Burn in Heaven” determines the direction the band takes with their campaign: the choir-powered, groovy song illustrates Hell as the realm of their eternal rule, calling on their legions to join in on their chants live.

”The Legend of the Six Kings” being inspired by Tolkien’s masterpiece “The Lord of the Rings”, wrapping the band in mysterious darkness with sweeping songs shining bright. Here, FROZEN CROWN also show magnificent instrumental abilities through a majestic guitar solo where the three guitars intertwine, beautifully harmonizing together.
Going extra catchy, the Italian band slides in a cover of “Iris”: originally by American alternative rock band Goo Goo Dolls, this 1998 track became an international superhit. FROZEN CROWN take its power and make it power metal, covering the entire spectrum from waltz-time ballad to high-speed drums and vocals full of pathos. Not sure if the lyrics match the uptempo mode here.

“Winter Hearts” contrasts this venture into the mainstream instantly with easily recognizable heavy riffs to start, growls to hammer in the message, and a chantable chorus to close the deal—a grand track, reminiscent of the band’s classic songs from their 2018 debut, The Fallen King. The epic storytelling continues throughout melancholic “River of Time” and assertive “Through the Fire”, singalong potential included. “To the Stars” gifts The ”Legend of the Six Kings” additional live character before the title track, “The Legend of the Six Kings”, rises.

Overall, we found this new album to be an uptick from their previous releases. The variations certainly help and the favored tracks here are a bit stronger than the ones off the last album. Fans of the band will certainly be pleased.
For those new to FROZEN CROWN this could be a good starting point, showing the band’s capabilities. They can write some catchy, fast, and melodic tracks, easily keeping up with their contemporaries.
