BEN GRANFELT – True Colours (2020)
A favorite of this blog, Finnish guitarist BEN GRANFELT is back with a new solo album – titled ”True Colours” – and you’re guaranteed of good music to enjoy this weekend.
Exquisite player and songwriter – but also guitar virtuoso – GRANFELT delivers here just another greatly produced & recorded album mixing classic rock, heavy-blues, and melodic rock.
“True Colours” is more dynamic and ‘radio friendly’ than his previous efforts, however there’s something for everyone as we are pleased by some excellent instrumentals as well, a blend of Joe Bonamassa & Joe Satriani.
Bandmate in Los Bastardos Finlandeses, vocalist Bryn Jones sings in two songs, and the two more rocking on the CD; the punchy “Down For The Count” where his raspy voice fits very well, and the dirtier, hard rocking shufflle of “Love Or Nothing”.
Ben’s sings in duo with his wife on “No Turning Back”, and the harmonies blend very nice together, while the band adds a touch of heavy funk to “Hey Stranger”. “A Moment of Madness” brings a fusion of classic rock with bluesy atmospheres for good effect.
Underrated and still unknown for many fans of this timeless genre, BEN GRANFELT never fails delivery quality classic rock music done with taste and finesse. His guitar style reminds me of that 80s LA Session crew, also the way he arranges the songs and perform the vocals.
