FREAKSTORM – Storm Inside My Heart (2021)
Released today, ”Storm Inside My Heart” is the debut album from German female fronted melodic rock act FREAKSTORM, produced by renowned Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69) who also play bass, and with AVANTASIA / solo Oliver Hartmann providing guitar on several tracks.
FREAKSTORM’s style is timeless classic melodic rock with harder moments and a modern sound. The band released some singles a couple years ago accompanied with very professional made videos and when they were ready to record the full album, pandemic paralyzed all activities. But now finally “Storm Inside My Heart” is out there, and an enjoyable collection of rockers it is.
FREAKSTORM is basically female vocalist / songwriter Sinah Meier and drummer Olli Fuchs, while they use session musicians for the other instruments.
The fact that “Storm Inside My Heart” is now on the market today is also thanks to a number of lucky coincidences: on one hand, Dennis Ward’s help. He had already produced the band’s first singles, of which he has now remastered three songs for the inclusion on this album. Ward also took on the role of bass player personally.
Last but not least, Ward also contacted prominent supporters: Avantasia member Oliver Hartmann supplied the guitars for three new Freakstorm pieces. This is how, for example, the rousing playful AC / DC cover “Shot Down In Flames” was created.
It’s really cool to hear this AC / DC rocker performed by a female. While Meier’s voice is pretty poppy / melodic, her clean pipes and style makes the song very own. And fun.
While musically inspired by ’80s, on ”Storm Inside My Heart” everything sounds fresh, contemporary and not a old-fashioned. It’s all very well performed, recorded and produced, and enjoyable disc of female-fronted melodic rock music.
