SCANDIC TRIBE – Made In Scandinavia (2016)

“Made In Scandinavia” is the debut EP from SCANDIC TRIBE, a new hard rock combo formed last year. As the band’s name and EP title says, this is a union of two Scandinavian musicians; Danish guitarist Morten G.P. & Norwegian vocalist Thomas Økland, and indeed, the music was created with Scandinavia in mind.

However, Scandic Tribe born in North America. Living in the US, guitarist
Morten G.P. was looking for a singer to fit in his musical vision of classic, catchy melodic hard rock riffs to create anthemic songs.
He found Thomas Økland, and there was an instant chemistry; both shared the same influences and Scandinavian musical roots.

“Made In Scandinavia” has a typical Swedish, Norwegian and why not, Danish classic rock sound, but with a strong British feel as well.
Recorded in New Jersey, USA, and mixed in Los Angeles by renowned Roy Z (Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson), the EP delivers 4 very well composed, arranged and performed songs with an organic essence.

Opener “Dusty Sunrise” is a classic hard rocker driven by groovy riffs and strong vocals in the vein of ’80s UFO, followed by the highly melodic midtempo “Heaven”, a track that somehow brings to my mind McAuley Schenker Group. The latter includes a nice string arrangement at the end section.
“Heroes” is the ballad with some early Scorpions vibe (not the mainstream) with clean guitars which raise in intensity and plenty of intricate vocal harmonies. Really cool.
Then we have “Revolution of Confusion”, a bluesy rocker presenting a spiraling guitar work and steady rhythm section, then at the middle turns faster and rockier.

Scandic Tribe is a very interesting new band, as the guys put in the press sheet: “neighboring countries and friendly borders can lead to many things, combining our efforts and believes into something big, dream the biggest dreams, and watch them come true. Bring our ideas to life, and watch them unfold…”
With solid songs far from ordinary and creative ideas, Scandic Tribe appears into the hard rock scene as a truly promising band. This EP is the advance of a full album titled ‘Light At The End’ to be released soon.
