POWELL-PAYNE – Voilà (2024)

Welsh melodic rock band POWELL-PAYNE will release their debut album ”Voilà”, on December 13, 2024, via Frontiers Music.
Formed by Mark ‘Penfold’ Powell (ex-drummer of Psycho Kiss) and Adam Payne (former vocalist of Airrace) in 2022, Powell-Payne’s journey began with a single goal – to create a heartfelt song dedicated to their lost loved
ones. Joined by their dear friends Adam Davies on guitar and Steve Leyshon on keyboards, Powell-Payne quickly realised the magic of their collaboration and decided to embark on a full album project together.
Expanding their line up to include the exceptional talents of Aydan Watkins on guitar and Alex Anderson on bass guitar, Powell-Payne surprises with it fresh sound.
“Voila” is a mixture of genuine classic ’80s AOR and Melodic Rock, featuring some authentic emotion-woven tracks with great hooks – an album well arranged and composed, while the musician’s performance is awesome. It’s a pleasure to listen to Adam Payne again, what a vocalist!

CORY MARKS – Sorry For Nothing (2024) *HQ*

With his second full-length album, ”’Sorry For Nothing”, rebel ‘heavy‘ country pop/rock artist CORY MARKS takes up his territory, offering up an unapologetic double-barreled blast of 14 songs, equally divided between arena-rock, and roots country pop-rock.
It’s a blend that’s proven to be a crowd-pleaser for Marks, joining together diverse audiences on tours with Five Finger Death Punch or ZZ Top, while joining Nickelback on the main stage at this year’s Boots and Hearts festival.
Produced by longtime collaborator Kevin Churko and Andrew Baylis, ”Sorry For Nothing” is a welcome sign of unity in a world of divisiveness. The songs are fun, melodic, fusing country with metal / hard rock, rich in melody. Among the guests, we find ex- Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars and Sully Erna of Godsmack on the track ‘(Make My) Country Rock’, among others….

ALTER BRIDGE – One Day Remains [20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition] (2024) *HQ*

ALTER BRIDGE is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their gold-certified debut ”One Day Remains” with a deluxe edition. Originally released in 2004, the album includes fan favorites like “Metalingus,” “Open Your Eyes,” and “In Loving Memory.”
This expanded edition offers six bonus tracks, including rarity “Save Me,” and a five-song 2005 live set from Phase One Studios in Toronto, featuring never-before-released performances.
Florida four-piece Alter Bridge was formed in 2004 by members Mark Tremonti (guitar), Scott Phillips (drums) and Brian Marshall (bass) when their group Creed (known for such enduring hits as “Higher” and the multi-platinum “With Arms Wide Open”) was embarking on an extended hiatus. Alter Bridge completed its lineup with singer and guitarist Myles Kennedy (Slash) – then known for his work with the Mayfield Four – and signed to Wind-up Records.
Setting the tone for ”One Day Remains” is the metal-tinged opener “Find the Real,” a searing, high energy track that showcases Kennedy’s dynamic vocals. The album features one of Alter Bridge’s biggest hits, “Open Your Eyes,” which served as the band’s debut single. The anthemic track peaked at No.2 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart, while it was a Top 50 hit in Australia and Canada…

WITHIN SILENCE – The Eclipse Of Worlds (2024) *HQ*

All over a decade of hard work, WITHIN SILENCE has established a solid presence in the melodic power metal scene with the release of their debut album in 2015 and its follow-up in 2017. Both received enthusiastic feedback from fans worldwide contributing to the band’s steadily growing following. Over the years, WITHIN SILENCE has played many shows around Europe, including festivals in Germany, Norway, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
Within Silence are now finally back with new music and their third album ”The Eclipse of Worlds”, set to be released this December on Ulterium Records. The guys set out to write and record their most epic, memorable and uplifting album so far.

The majestic album closer, “When Worlds Collide,” clocks in at over 12 minutes and may well be the best song Within Silence has released to date…

MYSTERY BLUE – Night Demon (2024) *HQ*

Next Friday, Massacre Records will release “Night Demon“, the new studio album from female-fronted veteran melodic metal act MYSTERY BLUE. The band’s forthcoming rager offers 12 new and pure heavy metal tracks as well as a cover version of Accept’s classic ‘Restless and Wild’ as bonus track.
That cover song provide a hint of MYSTERY BLUE’s sound: razor double guitar attack, plummering rhythm section, and big metallic vocals. Alongside a guest feature from Andreas “Buschi” Babuschkin of label mates Paragon, Mystery Blue, who formed back in the ’80s, invites you to travel from song to song, carried by the passion and energy which transpires through this new album, their ninth.
“Night Demon” was mixed and mastered by drummer Vince Koehler at V.I.P. Studios, and the great retro-metal cover art was designed by Jean Linhoff…

SERAINA TELLI – Black ‘N’ White Sessions (2024) *HQ*

Former Burning Witches vocalist / guitarist SERAINA TELLI is releasing her new album, ”Black ‘n’ White Sessions” via Metalville Records. The double-disc set shows where Seraina’s musical roots lie: she has reduced her music to the essentials and almost completely freed herself from electricity. She has always sung, written songs in her head, and always has an acoustic guitar in the trunk of her car for emergencies.
Seraina’s 3rd album shows her in a completely new light. It showcases her talent and captivating songs from the first two albums without distortion / electric instruments in the background, but no less emotional and punchy.
Produced in early 2024 by Rico Horber and Telli herself, she was supported by a number of talented musicians, such as rock legend Lee Aaron, John Diva & the Rockets of Love, Saratoga’s Tete Novoa, Anna Murphy (ex-Eluveitie’s and Cellar Darling’s), and many other well-known names who joined her on the second part of the album, singing and playing with her to create captivating and emotional duet versions of her songs…

REPTILE SMILE – Mark III (2024) HQ *0dayrox Exclusive*

REPTILE SMILE, the Stockholm-born hard rock band that has been shaking the European scene since 1988, is back with their highly anticipated album ”Mark III”, released by Lions Pride Music.
Formed in the late ’80s by guitarist / songwriter Martin Karlegård and drummer Michel Maiden, REPTILE SMILE quickly rose to prominence after signing with CBS Records in 1989. Their debut single “Shove ‘em Down” and the album Automatic Cool propelled them into the limelight, with the track “2000 Miles” gaining heavy rotation on MTV. The follow-up album Who Makes the Rules in 1991, featuring the hit single “Wild Life,” further established the band’s reputation.
Now after many years REPTILE SMILE is back with their third album properly titled “Mark III”, a collection of hot rockers which marks the band’s powerful resurgence, combining re-imagined / re-recorded classics with previously unreleased tracks, and it’s a delight for fans old and new hard rock.
With original singer Peter Schapiro‘s commanding vocals leading the charge, the band serves refreshed versions of the best tracks from their two 1990 & 1991 albums, plus new songs – which in fact many were written in the late ’80s…

TONY CAREY – Retrospective 1982-1999 [Best Of + Unreleased] (2000) HQ *Rare*

TONY CAREY is a musician whose career bears little resemblance to the rock-n-roll lifestyles of other artists. He belongs to that rare breed of artist who goes their own way. Not concerned with enhancing his own image, Carey focuses instead on keeping up with his own high standards. His enduring success including numerous hits on the American and German charts, guest appearances with top acts such as Rainbow, and many impressive film soundtracks, proves that he always was on the right path.
Retrospective 1982-1999” is a Best Of compilation spanning these years, the most busy and successful in Tony Carey’s career. The CD (now out of print and a collectible) features previously unreleased tracks and different versions only found here, all remastered.
The first 10 tracks on “Retrospective 1982-1999” are must-haves, from 1982 to 1990 when Carey’s music was pure AOR / Melodic Rock with MTV / radio hits like “I Won’t Be Home Tonight”, “Why Me?” and “The First Day Of Summer”. The rest is very good too, including a rocking, rawer pre-production demo version of “Heard It On The Radio” (1988) and the insanely catchy “I Don’t Want To Be In Love” (an unreleased 1987 track).
This is VERY good, the best of Tony Carey into one CD, plus rarities…

ROD McINNES – Best Kept Secret (1997) *Rare*

As requested, now we have here a nice piece of music: 1997’s ROD McINNES album titled “Best Kept Secret“.
The ’90s was an obscure decade for the smooth, delicate AOR sounds, and many very good albums from the genre were released via small record labels, hence, turning out of print soon and hard to find in years to come. One of these is “Best Kept Secret”, by Canadian singer & songwriter ROD McINNES.
Produced by talented knob twiddler Terry Brown (Rush, April Wine, Alannah Miles), expect a crystal clear sound on this CD. McInnes’ style is elegant, Light AOR / Westcoast with a touch of melodic rock in the vein of Tim Feehan, Paul Janz, Kurt Howell, and alike. His vocal performance is sweet and rich in harmonies, while the back up band is excellent featuring Zappacosta / The Bushdoctors keyboardist Marco Luciani and Keven Jordan / Gowan drummer Greg Critchley.
Highlights include the extremely melodic opener “When You Fall” mixing relaxing poppy AOR keys with a Westcoast feel, the gracefuk “Someday” with its lovely little chorus, the Journey-like “It’s OK, It’s Alright”, and the pristine ballad “Trials Of The Heart” that sounds taken from an ’80s movie soundtrack…

TONY CAREY’s PLANET P PROJECT – Steeltown (Remixed & Remastered 2024) *HQ*

Since he left left Rainbow in 1977, one of the more interesting side projects of keyboardist / vocalist TONY CAREY has been the PLANET P PROJECT, a vehicle for some of his more progressive stuff yet quite commercial as well, even with some videos from the first two albums (1983-84) receiving moderate airplay on MTV when originally released.
Tony took up the project again during the 2000’s with the trilogy Go Out Dancing, and in 2013 released this new effort entitled “Steeltown”.
As the album went out of print and Tony Carey thought it needed an update, now we have ”Steeltown (Remixed & Remastered 2024)”, where Carey did a remastering and added some layers of sound to finally remix the whole piece of work. A new artwork is also featured.
“Steeltown” mixes Carey’s AORish melodies known from his solo albums with the light melodious proggy atmospheres of the last Planet P works. Of course, there’s a lot of keyboards, synths, pianos on this album where Carey handles most of the instruments. TNT guitarist Ronni Le Tekro has recorded on some tracks…

JADED HEART – IV [Japanese Edition +1] HQ *Rare*

A few days ago we featured here one of German rockers JADED HEART best albums. Now, also requested, here’s their fourth record titled “IV“. Yeah, “IV” is also among the band’s best, but for us, it is their BEST. Why? Because everything gelled in this recording: melodies galore, top class vocals courtesy of Michael Bormann, and catchines all over.
From songwriting and arrangements to performances and production sound (handled by AXE’s Bobby Barth), JADED HEART’s “IV” is one of the greatest European Melodic Hard Rock albums ever made.
This Japanese edition, of course out of print, is the one to get: features a re-arranged track list which works much better than the European version, but especially for the awesome bonus track for Japan titled “Under The Sky Of Africa”.
Usually, the bonus track for Japan is placed at the end of the track list – on “IV” it’s the first track – and we can see the reason… “Under The Sky Of Africa” is one of the best JADED HEART songs ever! It’s a crime this track wasn’t included into the European release.
Long story cut short: your Melodic Hard Rock collection isn’t complete without JADED HEART’s “IV”. A stellar album from the genre…

BITTER SUITE – Crime Of Love [recorded 1991-1992] (2005)

As requested, here’s “Crime Of Love“, the one and only album from Canadian combo BITTER SUITE, a project put together in the early Nineties by songwriter / musician David J Petovar. Most the music was recorded 1991-1992, quality Melodic Rock unfortunately shelved back in the day.
In 2004, with the genre’s resurgence, Petovar made a deal with Metal Mayhem Music to finally release “Crime Of Love”. Some tracks were finished for the occasion, the rest are the original takes.
Spearheaded by Petovar, the roster included George Christon of Kick Axe and Don Wilk of White Wolf sharing the lead vocals with him. The project’s supporting cast included female singers Carry Jay and Kelly Brock, vocalist Mick Dalla, Stephen ‘Steve’ Crane, guitarist Greg Filan, bass player Pete Olster (Young Gun), drummers Craig Brooks (Touch, American Tears) and Randy Black (Annihilator), and more.
This is timeless Melodic Hard Rock with AOR waves. The title track and “Give Me The Night” served up a pounding backbeat and axe solos that reminisced to pointy guitarred, twin axe attacks. “Hard To Say It’s Over” meanwhile is a keyboard-laden midtempo AORish number that showcased the writing versatility…

SKAM – From The Depths (2024) *HQ*

Leicester, UK power trio SKAM have been around for 13 years, and we featured some of their strong albums, albeit with little to distinguish them from the herd. Well, that will change with their new album “From The Depths“, a true piece of quality Brit hard rock that will surely ensure higher levels of exposure.
They’ve doubled down, built on the best of their past, added a contemporary twist and gone for rock broke. And they’ve succeeded spectacularly. From the sizzling first moments of the opening Rising Fever in which guitarist / singer Steve Hill unleashes a dizzyingly ferocious guitar solo, it’s pretty clear what lies ahead and SKAM don’t disappoint. With a lingering chorus that stays inside the head for days, the Leicester trio have crafted a song that surely ranks amongst the best of 2024…
