BRICKYARD – Brickyard (CD reissue)

Another fulfilled request arrives here with “Brickyard“, the self-titled BRICKYARD album appeared for the first time on CD. The man behind Brickyard was songwriter, vocalist & guitarist Mikel Japp, born in South Wales UK.
Since his teens Japp was part of several bands and even toured through Europe, but then moved to the US and established as songwriter, where has penned songs for The Babys (‘Head First’), KISS (‘Creatures of the Night’), John Waite and many other melodic rock&pop artists.

Brickyard was actually a Los Angeles-based band founded by Japp alongside extremely talented seasoned musicians who knew exactly how to lay down a tight Melodic Rock album with extremely tasty guitar work and a sparkling of keys: David Logeman, Tad Dery, Luke Thule and Michael Lamper.
Together they recorded a bunch of songs which were originally released in the early ’90s as promotional material, fortunately rescued some time ago and finally put on CD.

Mikel Japp vocals sounds like the perfect blend of John Waite, Lou Gramm, Steve Overland and Thunder’s vocalist Daniel Bowe, with a clear and rich controlled range.

Musically, this is true, late ’80s bluesy based Melodic Rock /AOR such as the energetic “Piece Of The Action” or “The Last Time”, the awesome AORish mid-tempo “Look Love In The Eyes” and “Baby I’m In Love Again”, or the heartfelt ballad “I Believe In Love”, making this record a must check for fans of the genre.

Unfortunately Brickyard would never get the chance to show their potential as the musical climate changed soon, but what you got here is a testament to an extremely talented band.
This is tasty Melodic Rock with an American feel, but with special British touch that makes it unique, something like blend of Foreigner, Signal, The Babys, Thunder, Strangeways…
Hard to find album with remaining copies being sold at ridiculous prices.
